Andyp1 (a helpful chap) recommended that I get virtualdub MP3 freeze to check my AVI files for bad frames. The link in the tools section takes me to a site that only has virtualdub on it...can anyone post the correct link for me please? At the moment I have Virtualdub mpeg2 1.5.10 - Is this the right one. I am trying to extract the audio which is MP3 so I can convert it to AC3 (as per Andy's instructions) although I'm not really sure why I am doing this - is it because if I compress the audio, I can then set a higher bitrate for the video when I encode it to Mpeg2?
    God this is hard!
There are lots of people here and guides who/which are very helpful - but I find that they tell you how to do a task but rarely why you need to do it, or what benefit it would bring.
    Appreciate any answers.

    Thanks

    http://www.digital-digest.com/dvd/downloads/virtualdub.html

Scroll down this page and you will find it.

It has all the virtualdubs on that page.

I use virtualdub mp3 freeze to check for bad frames

I use virtualdub to extract the audio to wav when it is mp3

I use virtualdubmod to demux ac3 if the original file has ac3 audio

I have virtualdub mpeg2 , I have used it but I can't just remember what I used it for now .

Different versions seem to perform a different function particularly well for me.
They are only small programmes so no harm in having them all on board.

Don't forget ffmpeggui for converting to ac3.

This is about the best guide to follow
