If Microsloth ever twig to the fact that they could be in any way threatened by this bill, you can bet they will be throwing a truckload of money at it in order to have it buried. The only laws affecting their business that they don't bribe out of existence are those that allow them to further their monopoly.

I'm glad somebody else had this in mind. Seriously, why not make EVERYTHING that can be used for an illicit purpose illegal. Guns, knives, alcohol, can-openers, ... -
This is why I’m always saying, any day congress is not in session is a good day. What we need in Washington is more partisan deadlock between the two parties so nothing gets passes
Big Government is Big Business.. just without a product and at twice the price... after all if the opposite of pro is con then wouldn’t the opposite of progress be congress? -
What WON'T be illegal if this passes?

Look, let me explain something. I'm not Mr. Lebowski; you're Mr. Lebowski. I'm the Dude. So that's what you call me. That, or Duder. His Dudeness. Or El Duderino, if, you know, you're not into the whole brevity thing-- -

Call me a cynic but I have a feeling it will pass, as the music and film industry have the capital to basically buy the bill, look at the DMCA. However since it would basically make eveything illegal then the industry will have its whim of who is sues (it will give a nice boost to the quarter end numbers). At which point I do not envision many lawsuits against Mom and Pop and thier 10 year old VCR but rather the P2P networks, cd copying/burning software, dvd ripping software, and Linux (Hell Microsoft will have to want a piece of this). It might block the future production of Dvd burners and CD Burners (do they even still make tape decks?). They want money outta this so they are going to gun for the companies that have it. Dark Days are amiss.

I think the word you had in mind was "afoot", by the way."It's getting to the point now when I'm with you, I no longer want to have something stuck in my eye..." -

Look, folks, not meaning to talk down to anyone - but in case most don't know it, Senator Orrin Hatch is more than just a senator.
He is also Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, also the 2nd ranking Republican on the Finance Committe, and in the following committees - Intelligence, Aging, Taxation and Indian Affairs.
Effectively, a supposedly learned man.
But apparently without the sense that God gave to a goose.
He claims to be a musician. While I never heard his "work" I can't say I'm even interested.
But this man is in a key, pivotal position to heavily influence this so-called righteous legislation to turn the majority of the US population into hardened criminals.
Think the media will pick up on that?
While I doubt it, I say that it's people like us that have to continually "ping" "ding" or whatever - to the media AND your representatives to sway them to drop this idea.
Complacency and inaction on our part(s) allow for this crapola to come into being. It isn't just what these yokels in Congress do - if we don't tell 'em (and tell 'em ad-nauseum) they will get away with allowing new laws to do what they do.
Sorry for the rant. But it gets me going. Bigtime.Whatever doesn't kill me, merely ticks me off. (Never again a Sony consumer.) -

It's unfortunate that America thinks that it wields the kind of power necessary to effectively push through a law like this, but let's face it American's only account for something like 8% of all piracy, software cracking, and other forms of "illegal" distribution. The majority of Organizations releasing the pirated materials are in countries that either don't enforce the laws, or don't have any form of laws in regards to electronic information whatsoever i.e. a good portion of scandinavia, russia etc. The American government has gotten away with laws that require different hardware confgurations than the rest of the world up until this point, but as the rest of the world catches up technilogically, America accounts for less and less of the market share on electronics. One day Japanese/Korean/Chinese manufacturers are going to decide that it just isn't worth providing an entirely seperate product line for 1 country. Then what?

The nazi photo is a little scarry & very close to reality. -
America has a nasty habit of getting whatever it wants in such situations. If they decide they want the rest of the world to adopt a video standard, they will get it. Most manufacturers see America as *the* market to tap into, and that will only change if America learns to function without sweatshop labour.

I have said it before and I will say it again - You all have to remember is that in the United States, we have the best legal system and the best congress that money can buy. Everything else does not count. Be very proud of that fact.
I do not know if that is copyrighted but try to find me !! -

What do we have to do to get some tech-savvy people in congress? Is there even a separate committee involved with technology? It's a shame that we have so few who know so little about so much making so many laws governing so many things they have no clue about. I feel violated.

I still can't see how they "lose" money to piracy when they were'nt going to get the sale in the first place
-
they are f*#@king MAD! they would have so much much s**t on their hands they would'nt know where to shove it ( ideas will be taken down ). they started this s**t, its their fault, now they should pull their fingers out of each others butts, and say it and stop blaming the public! they put the tech out there not US! 8)
