I am trying to create a DVD of the first Harry Potter film with the "alternate" soundtrack (see www.illegal-art.org). My plan was to rip my DVD of the film, pop it in my NLE (Vegas 4) and add and sync up the new sound. Here's what I did:
Rip with DVD Decrypter
Demux with VOBrator
Join resulting m2v files with TMPGENC
Open resulting mpg file in Vegas
(There are 8 vobs containing the film, but I couldn't just drop them into Vegas since the 8th vob contained several different streams (film, FBI warning, trailers) which made Vegas choke. Plus I couldn't just drop the m2vs into Vegas, since it won't take them. Hence the somewhat convoluted process)
Anyway, when I open the mpg of the film in Vegas, the running length shows as 2:05 or so instead of the 2:35 that is the actual running length of the film (TMPGENC shows the length as 2:35).
Any idea why this is happening. Any authoring app that will let me use the mpg and add the new soundtrack to it? I cannot just mux the new audio track with TMPGENC because it is in two pieces which need to betrimmed and synced to the video, and being just a couple of seconds off is too distracting.
Thanks for any assistance.
