Looking at the guides for tmpgenc, it appears that I have to have separate audio and video files to make a video DVD. Right now, I have .mpg files (MPEG-2?) that I extracted from my RePlayTV. How would I "split" the .mpg file into two different files? And then, how would you make sure that audio and video are perfectly synched on the DVD?

Nope, you don't need to split the mpeg into elementary streams to author a DVD. If the resolution of your mpeg is DVD compliant then all you need to do is author and burn.
