  1. I need to know what i should capture in to get the best quality transfer to dvd. Should I capture in avi or mpeg 2 and what software should i use to author the dvd???

    depends on your capturing hardware, and what you are capturing.

    are you capturing analog video or dv? are you using a capture card with hardware mpeg-2 encoding, or software encoding?

    for me, since my capture card doesn't do hardware mpeg-2 encoding, I capture to avi format, using either the Huffyuv or PicVideo MJPEG codecs. Then I convert using TMPGenc and BeSweet, and author with DVD Lab.

    most of my authoring is from VHS captures with an Aver EZ DVDMaker capture card.

  4. Oh gotta change that. Replaced the ez dvd card with Ati All-In-Wonder 9800. I can capture mpeg hybrid part hardware part software or avi i know what tmpgenc is but what is besweet???

    it's an ac3 encoder (among other things). I capture to avi, strip out the .wav file, and convert to .ac3 before authoring.

    as for the 9800, if you like the quality of the mpeg-2 capture, and you don't need to do excessive editing, by all means, capture to mpeg-2 and save some steps. I capture to avi and encode because that's how I get the quality I want.
