I had some problems trying to backup Eurotrip with MTR. After the rip I tried to play it with the Apple DVD Player and only got a black screen. The counter on the player did not move. I tried it with DVDBackUp with the same results. I was able to get OSEx to rip it successfully with disk image. I can't seem to get any predictable results with any of the ripping software. Is this normal? Also my my laptop G4 works better for ripping than my Power Mac G4 dual 1.25 . After ripping I usually play them with the apple player to make sure they are working properly. A lot of movies will freeze while playing. And if I press stop and play again they start where they froze. This happens less often with the laptop Does anybody have any ideas or suggestions?

Not sure about your freezing problem, but I backed up Euro-Trip with MTR just fine. Made a full disc extraction and then ran it through DVD2One to get the movie only and it worked perfectly.

Maybe my freezing problem has something to do with Apple DVD Player. I just backed up "Stuck On You" and in the Apple DVD Player it froze on chapter 2. I tried playing it through VLC and it plays fine ... no freezing. Maybe "Eurotrip" was backed-up O.K. with MTR and its my player?

I've had DVD Player crap out on me before, and the problem was always fixed with a restart. If the doesn't help, you may need to try something drastic...
I like systems, their application excepted. (George Sand, translated from French), "J'aime beaucoup les systèmes, le cas d'application excepté." -
I have updated the Apple Player to 4.0, hopefully this will fix my problems. What is your idea, what would be drastic?

Hate to bring it up,
but what Media brand are you using...? -
The media is not the problem ... it never got that far. I usually play the back-ups on my Mac before I burn; to make sure everything works O.K. I'm hoping it was a bug with Apple DVD Player 3.2 . I have updated the player to version 4.0 . I'm testing it tonight

First, let me say, I am not being facetious when I ask this.
That being said. When you open the VIDEO_TS folder in DVD Player, did you then try to push the Play button? From your initial post it sounded like that may be the problem. -
Yes I pushed play (my problem was not just Eurotrip not playing at all, I also had problems with "Stuck On You", "Pirates of the Caribbean" .. etc. freezing while playing in DVD Player) .... It seems to have been something with DVD Player because with version 4.0 my test run seems to be working fine. Would this be a bug with Apple DVD Player 3.2?

doesn't seem like it should be.
DVD Player 3.2 worked fine for me under 10.2.8...
With Panther came version 4.0.
Were you using v. 3.2 under Panther? -
No ... I was using 10.2.8 with DVD Player 3.2
I don't know what was going on, but it seems like everything is working.
I have switched to 10.3 with DVD Player 4.0
Ya, very stange stuff. Some movies would play O.K. and some would freeze up. Hopefully the problem is fixed. -
I have tried more back-ups without any other problems. I guess there was some sort of problem with Apple DVD Player 3.2 and the upgrade to 4.0 fixed it.
