Just wondering if there was any firmware for the A06 that would allow you to burn 2x discs as 4x and if the drive is capable of burning 4x any higher
I was just wondering because I know the patched firmware lets you burn 1x at 2x
Thanks
Mark

Depends on the f/w. There isn't one that lets you burn faster than 4x as far as I know. I've been using 1.07 for quite a while, and it is very compatible with Ritek G04 4x media - very low errors and NO coasters in hundreds of discs burned. There's a 1.08 out, but I'm in no hurry to mess with that.
I have some charts of the 106's performance with various media on my site:

QuaiBoy..where can you buy those enclosures like that one on your site?

I got mine at Outpost.com:

Their service is hit or miss, so be careful. They sell them at the local Walmart now... it's the dual Firewire AND USB 2.0 box but it's almost $100!
I hooked my friend up with a 107 and this box if you want to go a bit cheaper:

Pretty cheap design, but it does have the advantage of having an internal power supply, whereas the ADS has an external power brick. Either should do the trick.

try enabling dma if you haven't yet so... when u say read 8x, do u mean rip at 8x, cos 8x is pretty damn good.

I had the same result with the read speed on my Pioneer 106d drive. When using DVD Drecrypter it says that my read speed is only 8x. While actually ripping a commercial DVD to my HDD it rips at anywhere from 3.5 to 7.2x. This is not that bad considering it was locked at 2.1 yesterday.
But I was really hoping for the 12x rip that the firmware is supposed to have. Is there a fix for this?
