  1. My friend burnt a DVD for me. He used DVDshrink and Nero to make it.
When I play it on my DVD player, the movie at certain parts will jump to another part of the movie.
If I rewind watching I can see that the whol emovie is there. But then when I release and play, it will play for a while and then jump to that same point.

    What usually causes that?
Is is a matter of just making another copy?
Is it the DVD player that is not compatible?

    Thanks for helping.

Rewind? Is it a tape? If so, that may be the problem: putting a tape in your DVD player.

If it is a DVD, what brand media is it? If you (or Burt) put it in your PC, how big is it? The closer to 4.35G + bad media can equal problems like the one you described.

  3. Rewind, I mean whatever way you call play fast backwards.

The media type I think is a cheap one. He bought 200 discs for U$66.
Do you think it's a crappy media?

What should be an affordable and reliable?

    Thanks

  5. louthewiz is right. Bad media can cause this and a bunch of other little problems noticable only while your watching the whole disc. I swear by Riteck go4's or TDk now. Tried a lot of others before I found what worked best with my burner.

  6. And what about the writing speed? I will buy a external DVD burner for my laptop. Or a external or will put a internal on an external bay.
Is it worth buying a 8x writer?

    DO you know anything about the Dominator DVD Burner / 8x4x12x DVD±RW / 32x16x40x CD-RW / USB 2.0 ?

Is there a list of the burner with more compatibility?

    Thanks

That's what the DVD Writers section is for, link here.

  8. If the DVD burner is supposed to be 8x but it's firewire. Will it burn at 8x? or just 4x because of the data transfer of the firewire?
    Thanks

  9. aqualung2003,

Another possibility that causes the movie to jump is the Nero burning software. There have been issues reported that Nero is not burning the movie correctly onto the blank DVD media. Look at the very bottom of the following URL: https://www.videohelp.com/forum/userguides/141024.php

I had a similar issue when I used Nero to burn my movie, but in my case the movie will play fine then it will suddenly freeze (or hang). When I burn the movie using different burning software then it worked fine. I used the same DVD burner and same DVD media.

IMO, The player has a part in this also. I've had discs that do the same skipping thing in my Sony that were bad media (CMC), that played fine on my Pioneer. Likewise, the Sony still skipped when I put in a Taiyo-Yuden, still no problems on the Pioneer. I'm not sure if it's necessarily the quality of the media with this issue, but it may be whether it's a DVD-R or DVD+R. The Sony's had zero issues with DVD-R, just DVD+R, despite it loudly proclaiming on the box it came in that it plays DVD+R. Ironically, the Pioneer only claimed to play DVD-R.

I can confirm the same problem - burnt a DVD with Nero - hopeless on my standalone player - burnt another copy using (free) IMG tool and DVD Decrypter, using the same media -perfect!!

This is kind of strange since ImgTool Burn uses Nero's API. It's for this reason that when my version of Nero started acting up (before I reverted back to v5.x) I burned with Alcohol instead.
