  1. When I try to capture a TV show using VirtualDUB the only thing that doesn't drop frames is uncompressed AVI.

The file size is ~30Gig for a 30 minute show. My hard drive is 40 Gig, so...

Any idea from someone that records shows often?
I would like to make SVCDs (and/or) watch the videos on my monitor (from a burned CDR).

    Thanks,
    Troy

  2. it is desirable to drop a certain amount of frames; 0 dropped frames is bad. how do the frame drops occur? massive fallout shortly after start? clusters at unpredictable internals? or single frames at a steady predictable interval? if you drop 1frame per 1000 or less you have nothing to worry about

  3. Wow, I didn't know that 0 (zero) dropped frames was bad. heh, I can get 0 dropped frames when grabbing with AVI uncompressed.

I understand that there can be a batch of dropped frames when starting a grab... but what I've seen is a large chunk every few seconds.

I have everything off in the startup.

    My system is:
    AMD 1500 XP
    256 DDR
    40 Gig HD
    64M Geforece2 MX400

    ??

    Thanks,
    Troy

  4. try playing with the disk io setting in vdub, also defragment your harddisk, turn off the preview and save to something like huffyuv or picvideo (make sure your capture settings are YUY2, not RGB24)

  5. yes, dropping a batch of frames on capture start is common, but it is not unavoidable once you fine-tune your system. if you drop frames in large chunks(but not a massive fallout) i'd investigate your system/hardware & disk i/o settings. try increasing your capture buffers as well
