I am currently using Windows ME to do all my video editing.
Should I upgrade to XP?

Your input will be very helpful.
Thanks.

I'm not going to help you one bit, because first off... If it ain't broke don't fix it and second I'd never have that ME crap on a PC I own.
now flip a coinBig Government is Big Business.. just without a product and at twice the price... after all if the opposite of pro is con then wouldn’t the opposite of progress be congress? -

If your system is better than a 1ghz with at least 512k ram then upgrade to XP, if not then think about 2000Big Government is Big Business.. just without a product and at twice the price... after all if the opposite of pro is con then wouldn’t the opposite of progress be congress? -
XP and 2000 are most definitely more stable OS's. Haven't got a blue screen I didn't deserve in XP or 2000.... 98, ME... more than I can count.
Also, 2K and XP support NTFS (Better File System Structure) and will also support larger files... I think ME is capped at 2 gigs. -
ME, as is 98, 98SE and 95b, limited to 4gig, because of FAT32.
NT, 2K, and XP, using NTFS have no such limitation.
Well...they do, but I think it's 2 terabytes.Cheers, Jim

I use both XP Pro and Win ME for video editing and find no difference in performance. What kind of problems are you having?
Is your system crashing, maybe XP would be a possibility?

Windows ME stands for Windows Multiple Errors. Get XP pro (not home) or 2000 pro.

Try an OS and see for yourself. Don't take someone else's word for it -
yeah, old athlon 650 with 128 megs of ram. win98 worked, but BSOD'd all the time. so 2k should have been better. 2k could not install, simply crashed - every single time. xp, lovely. smoooth. perfect.

Who knows, aside from greed, maybe Jobs and Wozniak saw the writing on the wall with the MacIntosh and that's why they didn't license a bunch of companies to make clones - because there would be no control over the hardware compatibility. IBM-based machines, on the other hand, popped up everywhere, with varying levels of quality control. -

512k would be better.
I was using an 800mhz, but saw on FW you could get a Compaq 2.8ghz with 40gig HD, 256m for $229.00 after rebates. So I got that. They have a deal like that every now & then at Office Depot. -
I agree with the if it ain't broke don't fix it. If you are having problems or have need for files 4gb or larger than by all means upgrade. I also agree with the idea of going to Pro instead of home. Windows Xp likes lots of ram, the more the marrier.... 256mb is an alright amount but you would probably benefit at having 512mb as a min. Getting a new system might not be a bad idea either, though with the things that are suppose to happen this year I would as suggested wait until the end of the year.....
AS far as the Compaq deal. .... My opinion... you get what you pay for or less with compaq. All of the low priced machines are just that low end machines. They don't upgrade well and just basic systems... -
I hated ME, it was like a million bugs/glitches/BSODs waiting to happen. Didn't work for me. Just 98SE with a few 2K features added.
I like 2K, XP Pro is OK.
Fedora ruleseven though i can't really use it much yet, i'm a linux n00b 8)
