  1. Hi
Today I use DVD2DVD-R togheter with CCE. It does what I usally did manully. IfoEdit-> AviSynth-> CCE->Auther...
I think this prog is great...

My question is, are there any prog out there which is better?? (Better quality or easier/faster to work with)
I usally strip out the main movie and one sub and one audio stream, and skip the rest...

    Hello,

I'm about to upgrade my DVD copy process from DVD2ONE to .... DVD2DVD-R :P cuz I've read so much good things about the quality.
Don't get me wrong, DVD2ONE isn't bad but I'm aiming for the best result.
Question; how long does it take to re-encode a film with DVDR2DVD-R?

I usally strip out the main movie and one sub and one audio stream, and skip the rest...
Same here, I don't need all the extra's.

  3. If it ain't broke...

I've been using Spuce-up for authoring and figured I'd try something new, I'm back to using Spuce-up.

    If it ain't broke...

yes, I realize you are not talking about authoring.
Don't give in to DVD2ONE, that leads to the dark side.

    Yes!

Mago, by all means, give DVDRebuilder a try. It's not dissimilar in concept to the method you describe, but almost certainly easier. It has three modes: Rejig, Quenc, and CCE, (And uses Avisynth, of course.) You can go manual or one-click, hows that for easy? You obviously would have no trouble setting it up, being experienced.

BTW, I just tested Rejig mode (transcoding) on Lawrence of Arabia. Ripped with DVDDecrypter on main movie ( I get no selection options when opening the movie up in DVDRebuilder, so rip it how you want it to be). Compression was 56.2% and quality is surprisingly good, no blocking or smearing. No, I'm not gunna say you couldn't tell it from the original. :P I suppose many folks would think it's acceptable, but that's all subjective.

I'm playing with Quenc (encoder) right now using 2-pass, also mean to try half D1. If I get time and am real ambitious, maybe I'll post some screen captures for comparison. Come to think of it, I wonder how Rejig mode would compare to DVDShrink or IC at that compression? Pretty well, I'll bet.
    Pull! Bang! Darn!

On this site there's a big recoding quality test, as far as the testers are concerned "InterVideo DVD Copy" is the overall winner ....... but when you take a look at this one it seems that the author of the "big recoding quality test" wasn't paying attention.
I wonder what your opinion is?

I've done a quick search and the main thing (if your goal is quality over speed) is that CCE has an important role in the various "back-up" tools.

  8. I took a look at DVD rebuilder (screenshot look) and it seems that it does the same thing as DVD2DVD-r, except that DVD2DVD-r has more features... DVD2DVD-r uses CCE to encode the movie, or an built in transcoder.. (think its the same as DVDShrink)... but I always use CCE because I want the quality...

Someone asked about the time, and I think the ripping, and stripping part takes about 30-40 min. (I always rip the movie to HD with DVD Decrypter first, but maybe it isnt necessary), then the encodeing part (CCE) depends on the length of the movie. I usally goes for 2-pass VBR, which means it goes thru the movie 3 times.
With my computer (1.8 GHz Celeron with 768MB RAM) the speed is something like 1,1... This means Im encoding 1,1 min film in 1 min.
So an 1 hour movie would take about 50-55 min for one round, then it does this 3 times.
Then there are additional min. to auther the film back again.
So a normal 2 hour film takes about 8 hours, so I usally does this over the night...

I have tried DVD2one and dvdshrink, and think they are great, but when using them I would get hickups in the movie. Especially at chapterchanges, the movie would freeze for a second, or two. Another problem, was that i upgraded my burnprocess at the same time to Nero 6.something. But that was not so good so I went back to 5,9.something...

The thing is that my standalone DVD player is sensitiv on burned dvds...
    (Its a pioneer)
