  1. I have lots of avi files and TMPGEnc will only convert the ones that are compressed with DIVX and not the ones that are compressed with XVID. What do I do.

not the ones that are compressed with XVID
Yes it does, provided you have the right codec installed. ffdshow does a good job with XviD...

  3. So is there something I can download to allow TMPGEnc to support XVID?! Cause I really dont wanna use that program to just decompress it.

    Hi

Can you actually play the XviD movie?

If you can't then like mats.hogberg states you need the XviD codec.

The same rules apply for playing a movie using a certain codec apply when converting from that movie to a format using a different codec.

Once a codec is installed it will allow your system as a whole to deal with that codec, not just TmpegEnc, beit play the movie or convert it.

Simple as that. End of story!

If above doesn't work, this might...
Anyway, reencoding the XviD to DivX is not the solution.
Another possibility is to use the FourCC Changer, and change the info in the AVI from reading XviD to DivX. This fools the decoder into thinking it's a DivX, and the DivX codec happily decodes (some) XviDs as well.

  7. Best way is to frameserve from virtual dub... no need for conversions or ffdshow (yuck!). Works every time.

True - If VirtualDub doesn't have the same problems as TMPGEnc has to read XviD (which it will have you don't have the XviD codec installed). But I've come across not that few AVIs that TMPGEnc refuses to load, while VDub has no complaints what so ever...

  10. Just get the right codecs. TMPGEnc handles all my xvid flawlessly. In fact, I don't know if I've even done anything other than xvid.

  11. Ok now could you please explain yourself fully and provide me with links to whatever codecs your talking about cause I'm not understanding you at all. I can play the XVID movies just fine. Its just that right when I get done with the encoding, it gives me this error. And then when I try to burn the mpeg file to a dvd, no program will accept it. So once again, if your gonna tell me to download a codec then I need a link to it cause I have no clue what your talking about cause I already been have had the XVID codec installed on my pc.

  12. What error does TMPGEnc give you after encoding ?

  13. I don't know and I dont feel like checking but what I'm trying to do is convert XVID to DIVX. But no one here has yet to tell me how.

  14. Just use Virtualdub open the XviD Movie and select "Video - Full Procesing Mode" then "Video - Compresion"
Go to File, and select "Save as AVI"

so you want help but you "don't feel" like checking to see what specific error message underlies your problem......

you either have a piss-poor atitude or your communication skills suck

V-dub will convert XVid to DivX, but if you're converting xvid to divx for the purposes of then converting the divx to dvd, you're wasting time and degrading quality.

and you've received several suggestions that were helpful, but you seem disinclined to help yourself

by the way....a google search yields:

"Results 1 - 10 of about 84,800 for converting xvid to divx. (0.40 seconds)"

don't come back till you read them all

  16. Naw man dont tell me I have a piss poor attitude when I'm just tryin to get some help. Yall keep confusing me cause right when someone tells me the solution someone else goes off and gives me another one. So I'm just tryng to figure out exactly what to do.

Alright lets start all over. So please dont tell me to scroll up or search on google cause I just want a definite answer if thats not too much to ask. So this is how it is, I try to encode the avi file XVID compressed to mpeg. It gives me this error:

    Invalid Pointer Operation

    What do I do.

What does? If it's the encoder, I'm pretty confident the source AVI is somehow corrupt.
The reason why noone is adressing your q about how to convert Xvid to DivX, is that your XviD related (?) problems will be the same, regardless of what you try to convert it to, may it be mpeg 2 or DivX. The only thing converting one compressed AVI format to another will buy you is loss in quality.

You wrote that people gave you different solutions. It is interesting to know what you tried so far and what are the results?
