  1. I know codec queries abound here and for that I apologize. I downloaded some AVI files from a UK torrent site and am using a PAL to NTSC converter on them (final format is VCD). The tool is working great except on three files. When it tries to convert these specific files it complains that the codec asap.4cc is missing. I've done some extensive searching but am unable to find this codec. Does anyone have a pointer to this codec?

Plop your problematic source movies into Gspot & tell us what codecs it flags up as being required.

Do a test render to see if your system will potentially handle the source.

  3. Thanks for the Gspot pointer. Unfortunately what this told me was that the AVI file wasn't in fact an AVI file. I can only assume that it got corrupted somehow. I got got these bitTorrents all from the same site and I guess three either didn't make it intact or were bad at the source. Guess I'll try to locate and download them again. Can anyone suggest a torrent site that has Survivor All Stars?

I use SuprNova.org, check it out.

Bear in mind that sometimes ppl present something for download that purports to being a full movie when indeed all it contains is just 1GB of nothing!

I have had ppl asking for the FourCC code 0 codec for a movie that they insist is OK and that they have spent 2 or 3 days downloading!

Fact of the matter is that FourCC Code 0 Codec = NO CODEC and the video data in the AVI is a lot of 0x00's

I have never heard of the ASAP Codec but it COULD be something similar. Use a hex editor to examine the content of the AVI
