  1. Converted a Divx file to VCD. I wanted to keep the same screen ratio as original (640*350) So I follwed these instructions https://www.videohelp.com/tmpgencxvcd.htm but when I go to burn with NERO it says it is not Video CD compliant and it will re-encode to VCD before burning. Why is it saying its not a vcd? If NERO rencodes it I will lose the 640*350 want I?

  3. When you load the file it should give you three options:

1.) Turn Off Standard Compliance and Continue
    2.) Re-Encode Video
    3.) Cancel

    Choose option "1"

An mpeg encoded like that is technically not a VCD per se. It is an XVCD and Nero does not recognize that format. It is not an offical format for either SVCD or VCD. Always remember if you encoded this file to mpeg 1 use the VCD setting in Nero and turn of the standard compliance. Use the SVCD setting if your file is mpeg 2.

VCD is 352x240 NTSC and 352x288 PAL, there's no other choice for resolution. Don't confuse it with Display Aspect Ratio, which is how it will look on your TV.

Maybe you're in wizard mode - I always see those options in nero 5.5. If you don't see an option box to uncheck "create standard compliant cd" or the messages CaseyComb mentioned, you're probably in the wrong mode. You should be able to turn off the compliance setting and burn in 5.5. Just remember that not all DVD players will play this XVCD that you're creating.

  7. Thorn is probably right, just because you don't see these options does not mean that they don't exist. I'm using the latest version and it has that option and it has been there since my first version of Nero 5.0. if you want to burn that file Turning off the standard compliance is the only way you are going to accomplish that. If you notice nero gives you 2 video CD options:

    VCD and SVCD

VCD having a res of 352x240 (352x288 for PAL)
SVCD has a res of 480x480 (480x576 for PAL)

If your mpeg file doesn't have any of these resolutions it isn't a compliant file. Get it? So it is not a VCD nor is it an SVCD file. just because it is an mpeg file doesn't make it a VCD file.

XVCD is a vague term it is basically a non compliant mpeg that uses the (S)VCD file structure.

Turning off the standard compliance is the only thing you need to do. It should come up the minute you load your mpeg into the Nero (S)VCD template.

    Find it...it's in there somewhere...

  8. Thinks, I understand what your saying now. Now just have to figure out where the option is. You dont think since NERO came bundled in with the cd rw drive when I bought it will make a difference whether or not it has the option do you?

  9. No, it shouldn't. Heck, you can even do it with the demo version of NERO I think... Try disabling the wizard mode as stated in a previous post.

  11. Got it....sort of. Just burnt it as data and it worked. But the vid has "black boxes" popping up all over the picture every few seconds. Any ideas what is now wrong. Could it have something to do with trying to keep it at 640*350? The only reason trying to keep it at that size is because the standard VCD size is "stretching the picture" In other words its a widescreen and when you burn as standard VCD size its as if you hit the zoom button on the remote.

You are very most likely getting the "bad" image because your VCD is out of spec i.e., not compliant.

If you started with a DivX or Xvid video that had a resolution of 640x350 then you should have resized it to 352x176 (with 32 black on the top and bottom to make it 240 total height) if you were making a NTSC VCD.

If you were making a PAL VCD then you should have used 352x208 (with 40 black on the top and bottom to make it 288 total height).

If you use TMPGEnc Plus to do your MPEG encoding then you should probably have just used the corresponding VCD template.

    I suggest you re-encode it.

Your file is really "out-of-whack" i.e., not compliant.
