I've read all sorts of guides, I'm trying 2 convert some avi to svcd, the avi look gud but the mpgs have blocks and contour lines, no matter what prog i use or what bitrate, is there some sort of general guide on how 2 get rid of these artifacts? I've read and researched a lot of guides but nothing helps, what can be done 2 improve encode problems like this? thanks

what is the avi source type ?
what encoder are you using ?
what settings exactly have you used ?
can you post a sample image ?"Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650)
