  1. Hi All, I have followed a couple of the guides on this forum for adding subtitles to DVD's however I have not been able to get it to work in my scenario. I have a Home Video DVD which I have created previously with menus etc but without subtitles. I now wish to add subtitles of my own to it. I tried the following tutorial

When I did this I had partial success. I have got media player to realise that there are subtitles. Ie it gives me the option to select English. But the subtitles don't work I just see the movie only. Further more my menu does not work correctly anymore. Also when placed in a DVD player I can not get it to play the movie which contains subtitles but only the other features which are on the DVD (menu not working).

The above tut sort of assumes that I previously had subtitles on the DVD which I want to replace however in my case there are no previous subtitles. Any advice how to fix this. Also is there a tut which is more suited to my needs. Thanks for any assistance.

You can just use subtitle workshop to create the subtitles at the time and for the correct duration and you can edit them yourself. The hard part is to find an authoring program that will accept them. The new dvdlab pro accept subtitles as can adobe encore dvd. If you try to put the into ifoedit then I believe it will be a lot more complicated.

  3. If I use dvdlab pro does that allow me to keep all my menus and features etc. on the DVD already or will I have to go start from scratch and just rip the movie.

    Thanks for a prompt reply

You will have to RIP and extract the video and audio files on the DVD you already created.

You will then have to re-author to add the optional subtitles so yes that does mean re-doing the whole thing as far as menus etc.
