  1. I have problems installing the laters XVid codecs 1.0.1 because in the middle of installation the window pops out saying that c:/windows/system32/xvid.ax cannot be deleted, and installation is recommended to be aborted. How do I delete this file. I unstalled the old xvid codec using add/remove programs in control panel, but it did not help.

  3. If what BJ_M said does not work, just boot windows into Safe Mode and delete the file from there. The xvid.ax should not be in use in Safe Mode.

If you've got a old OS like Win98/ME, then boot in dos and delete the file from there.

To get into Safe Mode, hit F8 on boot up. You must hit F8 before you see the Windows loading logo.
