  4. I had a problem trying to copy from Malaysian vcds. When opening the files they seemed to contain there own media player, and some of them had 2 or more dat files. When I tried to use vcdimager Gui to convert the dats to bins it was having none of it. I used clonecd in the end, for whatever reason this did the trick...

  5. How bizarre.

Your DVD player (?I assume) must be putting out the macrovision signal whether it's a DVD or VCD.

I suppose that VCDs could have a macrovision signal in but I find that rather unlikely...

Vcds definitely cannot carry a macrovision signal. I think Vitualis was correct in assuming your dvd player is applying the macrovision effect regardless of what disk is playing.

This is a known firmware bug in the Daewoo DVG-3000N, probably some others as well.

To check, try recording onto vhs your menu's such as audio settings, etc.. If your dvd player has this bug then chances are the menu's will be effected also.

Read this web site : http://www.dvd-wizards.com/darrenk/Daewoo_DVG3000N/DVG-3000Npatch.htm

Its specific to that player but there are some links to methods to correct this problem for any dvd player, unfortunately none of the solutions are very easy to do.

  7. I have a Philips DVD 762 only tested a few things on VDC
Hollow Man DVD Rip Converted to Mpg recordes like Macrovision. Serendipity records just fine and is not a DVD Rip, so perhaps the Macrovision codes transfer with the DVD Rips....
Is there then a way to remove the codes??

The macrovision signal is not in the video data on the DVD itself, but rather just a flag that tells the machine to ADD the signal in.

Thus, a DVD rip should not have the macrovision signal in any way...

If you opt to not remove macrovision in Smartripper than the vobs will still contain the flag which triggers macrovisin. If you tried to play those vobs through tv out and record onto vhs then you would get the macrovision effects. If you encoded the vobs to any other format, however, the macrovision would be removed.

  11. As what adam stated.

That option in SmartRipper just keeps or removes the macrovision "flag" in the VOB files. It makes no difference if you are encoding to VCD or DivX or anything else.

It will only make a difference if you re-author the VOB files as another DVD.

many thanks for the interesting replies and views i should make clear exactly what the problem is. Some vcd disks play and record just fine it is only certain disks that have this effect but you may be right about the flag being set as i have a wharfdale and suffer from this effect and my friend has a x wave with the macro disabled and does not suffer from it. This is not a serious problem as it does not affect anything i rip myself only disks i buy but it would be very nice to be able to remove it as my 15 year old son could moan for england when i buy a film he cannot tape to play in his bedroom if you need any more information please do not hesitate to ask cheers lesshaz
