what is the slowest processor speed for burning dvd's? ie 500mhz,800mhz,1ghz? are there any dvd burners that are compatible with slow speed cpu's single layer or dual layer.

i started out burning dvd's via scsi on 500 xeon system and i know of several 450 systems that burn no problems

Dual-layer is actually likely to be MORE compatible with slower systems in general, because right now they're only 2.4x burners.
The issue here is less about processor speed and more about sustainable data throughput rates.
While burn-proof (tm) and similar systems are great and all... I don't trust them any further than I can throw them, and if you can't sustain the data rates for at least 2.4x then you're gonna be unhappy with your burns.

Processor speed shouldn't be issue. Unless you're trying it on pentium 133
Using 8x speed burner (ND-2500A) on four years old 450MHz G4.
The critical things are fast enough hard disk, dma-capable hard disk controller and enough memory and, most important, OS with decent multitasking. Therefore, 500MHz is far more than adequate, if you have good OS. And you can forgot 9x-series windowses, it's multitasking is poor.
