  1. Is it possible to burn the DVD format on to a CD-R? Would that work is problem Hardware instead of Software?

That would just be a mini-dvd which almost no dvd player can play. When it comes to its movie playing functions the PS2 is no different than any other dvd player, at least right now that is. So no a mini-dvd will not play on the PS2 and there is currently no way to get anything other than dvds to play.

There is a program which lets you convert movie files to .pss which will play on the PS2 but this is not a viable option for many reasons.

Svcds and vcds will eventually be playable, it is only a software issue and can be easily coded by someone who knows how. Divx also might be a possibility.

Once the hard drive comes out who knows what will happen? I doubt that mini-dvd will ever be playable on the PS2 but if there were ever a dvd player that could be hacked to play this format, it would be the PS2.

  3. umm no man i think you would need a dvd burner. and normal cd-r's dont work with dvds unless you do some conversion to divx or vcd.
