  1. I'm officially done using Premire Pro. I was editing a video over the weekend & Premiere froze on me an average of 3 times an hour. Why can't Adobe actually get something under the hood of this program? The interface looks great, but the performance sucks.

Someone asked awhile back if Vegas was better than Premiere. I'm definately saying YES to this, now. Vegas has only crashed on me 1 time in the last year of using it.

From here on out it's VEGAS only....

Oh please, please, please let me have your copy of Premiere. I will give it a good home. I know that turning off unused programs while doing video helps, along with defraggged hard drives. You may also want to remove unwanted registries from your register. Maximizing your RAM also is a very good idea. Remember, surfing and editing do not mix, so turn off your browser as well, and occupy your time waiting for your project to complete it process doing something on than your system. If doing all the above does not help, I will send my my mailing address. That program is a monster!

PM me. I'll sell you my 6.5 version with case & SN for the right price. I'm going to hold onto my Pro version just incase the next upgrade corrects this problem.

Give = Free. What we have here is a failure to communicate.

    Dell Dimension 8250

Pentium 4 Processor Hyper Threading Technology 3.06GHz
    512MB PC1066 RDRAM 2X256 modules
128mb DDR ATI Radeon 9700 TX Graphics Card
    120GB Ultra ATA/100 HD 7200 PRM
250GB Western Digital HD 7200 PRM

Plenty under the hood. Premiere has & always has had a reputation for freezes & crashing. I would REALLY like Premiere to be the best video editing program out there because I do like the interface & the set up. I just wish it was more stable.

Vegas is a little more ugly, but it does the job.

  9. Now I had the same problem with Premiere Pro crashing multiple times an hour on my system. It was weird the first time it happened it would change the resolution and color to the lowest available on my video card.

I resolved this problem by going to the desktop, right clicking, selecting properties, then settings, then advanced for your video card, then Troubleshoot. I dropped it down to NONE and it worked like a champ. Notice what it syas there.

Then a year later i remormatted and forgot this. Reinstalled Premiere Pro and it would crash when I would do normal things like drag a clip or click on the toolbar. I then remembered and did what I mentioned above and it works great again.

I am also running a Dell (1.6GHz - not so fast anymore, I NEED FASTER). Maybe that is the problem. Give it a try, it may work.

PS What is the scoop on Vegas Video 5? More powerful than Premiere Pro? How so? Please let me know I am a big Premiere Pro fan.

  10. The conclusion I am drawing from this thread is twofold.
    1.) Dell sucks.
    2.) Dell video sucks.
The crashing occurs on Dell computers, and if you turn the video acceleration all the way off, it (Premiere) then works correctly.
Methinks Adobe should write nasty letters to the dept in Dell responsible for putting in crappy video GPU's.

This could be. I think my next investment might be the new Alienware PC's.

I really like Premiere's interface. but Vegas is SOLID. Vegas will take about any video or audio file & it almost never crashes or freezes. This has been one of Vegas' strong points for years.

  13. Tried Premiere Pro - went back to 6.5 - it amazes me that a company like Adobe takes the chance to release a 'better' version when they must have some idea of the 'bugs' still in it.

But then look at Pinnacle - good reputation with professional packages- still allow their name to be associated with some of the most appalling 'consumer ' products ever released!!
