  1. Hi guys,

I just reformatted and reinstalled Win XP Home onto my PC. It normally asks me about keyboard layouts and languages, but this time it didn't. I didn't think anything of it until I found out @ and " characters are reversed!

I'm sure the fix is simple but I can't find the settings allowing me to swap to a UK keyboard.

Does anyone know where these are in Win XP?

    Thanks!

  2. Sorry, just stumbled on it and got the answer. You do the following (for reference):

    - Open Regional and Language Options in Control Panels
    - Click the Languages tab
    - Click the "Details" button under "Text services...."
    - Drop the menu down, select "UK English" and select the UK keyboard layout
    - Click "Apply" and "OK"
    - Click "OK"

    Sorted!

That's because when you brought Windows home from the store you drove on the wrong side of the road

  5. Nah, I ordered this one from Amazon. You'd never believe the trouble I had activating it. It was originally for my old Dell machine as an upgrade and Microsoft said I could transfer it to my new machine no bother. When I first came to activate it I had to phone and get a special unlock code. It worked, no problem.

This morning, however, the code wouldn't work (a fresh one, can't use codes more than once) and it put me through to a Microsoft Rep. He interrogated me for a while and asked for product keys etc. before he gave me a new unlock code that would work. Maybe they thought I was a pirate?

To be fair, Microsoft were fast and polite about it and now my XP is working fine. I'm just not looking forward to installing it again and repeating 15 minutes on the phone...
