Well, hmm. Here's the deal. I encoded video with CCE at 29.97fps. I exported the audio as raw and encoded it to 2-channel AC3 with ffmpeg.

Importing the separate results into DVD-Lab produces an anomaly. The video is 53:43 long, and the audio is 53:46 long. A second video is 59:02 long, with its corresponding audio being 59:06. Just now, importing the raw audio produced the same discrepancy.

This is most troubling. I've heard bits and pieces of grumblings about audio and video timing issues, but I frankly felt that if I followed fairly standard procedures, I wouldn't encounter such problems. Have I done something wrong?

All signs point to this being a bug in DVD-Lab. It is the only program I'm using that seems to think an audio clip that is 53:43 long is in fact 53:46. I haven't actually created the DVD yet because I have to reencode the video yet again to get it to fit, but I thought I might see what others have to say about this item. Anyone?

    Thanks as always!

I forgot to mention that the video/audio in question is MiniDV (firewire), so.. it's not something that happened during "capture". :P

  3. Call it a bug. I have many dvd's compiled in dvdlab, and most have different audio lengths from video. Once compiled, they all play perfectly on the computer, and once burned, are in sync and play on the standalone.
Instead of re-encoding the video, why not compile the project in dvdlab, and then use DVDShrink to make it fit?

Re-encoding is a destructive process. I've gone out of my way to make certain I'm getting the highest possible quality with this project. This means 9-pass CCE.

And yeah, I'm going to have to call it a bug. I guess once they fix the subtitle issues, I'll be able to find out if the bug affects my sync.
