After 3 long months I finally got my new PC put together and running. After waiting for Noconas that never did come out on time (though they're due out in a couple weeks now ) I settled for two 3.06 Prestonia Xeons for it. CPU installation was smooth, the Swiftech heatsinks took some modification to get on around the Nocona retension springs. There is literally 5mm of clearance between the fan on the #2 heatsink and my video card. Fortunately the new system is a bit quieter than the old one so I'm glad I can finally just leave the thing on when I'm not around. The BIOS menus are huge so there is a lot of tweaking I can do which I'm sure will get me into more trouble. I did have to manually set my multiplier after realizing it sets it at 8x so I was running dual 1 GHz Xeons until I set it up to 23x. Had to wait for my XP replacement CD to get here (I lost the one I bought for this machine ). After installing XP and my core apps I made a Ghost image that fit nicely on a DVD and am now making my first post here on my new workstation

Unfortunately I found that the boot drive that I had in my old PC was corrupted when the board fried so I lost all my MP3s. Now I have to get out the CD cases and rip them all over again. But before I do that I'm gonna install Far Cry and see how well it plays on the new system with HT enabled. I may just have to disable HT to get better performance on some apps.

  2. Nice. Post some video related tests if you get the chance.

Will be doing video work as soon as I get my little camcorder back to film my journey to work for the OT whores. I had to put off customers after the 2460 died so I don't have any paying business here to work on yet. I can't wait to see what Premiere does with this system

  5. What MB did you go with? I'm running dual xeon's as well, so I'm curious.
