What is the best method of labelling DVDs?

I purchased label printing paper and printed out some reasonable looking labels. Thing is once applied to the DVD they just dont feel right.. they make the DVD feel bigger and heavier and have even caused some disks not to play anymore..

I have read of some printers that can print directly onto disks, anyone have any experience with this?
