  1. hey,

I have a DVD 'movie-only' backup I made a while a back and thier appears to be erros towards the end of the disc, I get errors like those quoted below, anyhow I play the movie in PowerDVD and it plays fine until you get towards halfway thru the end credits, so my question is this...........

How can I rip the DVD to HDD and make a backup minus the end credits, the problem I have is I feed the DVD into Shrink and it stops because it cant read the last few bits, because if I could get the DVD into shrink I could reauthor and cut the last few minutes off the DVD, and then burn another version off without the .

I trying to find a way round this problem, is thier maybe a tool I can use to rip the movie minus the last chapter as I believe that is the credits.

    Thanks for any help.

Well you still have the original, right? Just make another copy and this time use GOOD MEDIA.

    *ahem*

Now, assuming that you LOST the original or it is scratched beyond repair (the only reason you'd NEED to copy this copy again), you're pretty much SOL. You're going to lose bits and pieces no matter how you look at it.

That's what you get for using BAD MEDIA.

  5. right peeps help me out here, like I said the last part of the DVD was corrupt so using DVD Decrypters IFO mode i believe I have ripped the VOBs minus the last chapter which is the credits and is where the errors are, so now im left with a directory that has.....

    VTS_01_0.ifo
    VTS_01_1.VOB
    VTS_01_2.VOB
    VTS_01_3.VOB
    VTS_01_4.VOB
    VTS_01_5.VOB

so how do I burn these back to DVD???

The original DVD looks like this....
    VIDEO_TS.BUP
    VTS_01_0.BUP
    VIDEO_TS.IFO
    VTS_01_0.ifo
    VTS_01_1.VOB
    VTS_01_2.VOB
    VTS_01_3.VOB
    VTS_01_4.VOB
    VTS_01_5.VOB

    appears all I need is VIDEO_TS.BUP, VTS_01_0.BUP and a VIDEO_TS.IFO

    is this true????

Yeah, I agree with Gurm. Get the original and do it again using GOOD MEDIA. Do you really want a DVD movie with the last chapter chopped off anyway ? Who does ?

  7. I find I have the same problem playing some older DVD's that I rent from the video shop. Even though they don't appear to have any scratches on them, they start skipping towards the end of the movie.

If it's not caused by bad media or scratches, what else can cause this? It must have something to do with the physical condition of the DVD because it only happens with older rentals.

from chrisgin, which I may or may not agree with, and which Gurm may be on to.

Not implying anything. Just backing up that rental DVDs sometimes get scratched and have a similiar problem to Harvey2001's backup from an *ahem* original.

  9. yeh,dont use cheap media,stick with good quality dvd-rs.
as for the fact of not being able to *obtain* the original, then rip all the files you can from the disc, and then pass them through dvd2one,selecting movie only, and it should make a new set of files and fix the end of the movie.
but its the media you used that caused this problem, nothing else,IMO.

I have never seen an ORIGINAL that skips towards the end where the problem could not be blamed on scratches, dirt, or warping.

Older discs... this can happen, depending on how they are stored and treated. Remember that rental DVD's are ABUSED. Left in the car in the hot sunlight, peanut butter from children's hands, scratches from the car keys, etc.
