I am trying to open a movie in virtual dub but when it trys to load I get the message "not supported as it is an ASF file format and microsoft own the patent, although the movie works fine on the pc.
Is there any way to fix this please?

What are you trying to do? There could be an alternative way of doing it.

I have a movie on my pc that I want to put onto dvd and watch on my tv.
So I was using virtual dub to extract the wav.

I had to do this a couple of nights ago. I'm sure there are better ways to do it, but I just opened TMPGEnc and closed the wizard, then fed in the file as audio and set the audio to top-notch. The file it outputs should be a lot easier to work with.
