Anyone use Vonage or a VoIP-based telephone service? I have cable-based broadband and I'm thinking about dumping the phone company and going high-tech in order to save some money. The fee's and taxes levied on a phone bill are ABSURD !!! Vonage is $54/mo for 2 lines and unlimited local/500 L.D., 3-way, voice mail, and tons of other features, while I pay $95/mo. + for my crappy phone company with next to "0" customer service and only 3-way and caller ID..
Any thoughts, opinions or recommendations?

I have Vonage and for me it's $19.95/mo Unlimited...only have one line though. The service is ok, not stellar, but ok. For the money I think it's fine. If I am downloading something or surfing the net while on the phone I do hear distortion, nothing major. Occasionally the phone will go dead for a few minutes then it will come back. never been a real issue though.
I would still rather give them my $$$ then the rat-basttards at verizon. I say give it a whirl. -
I use VoIP and it's pretty good and very secure. No idea
about consumer level services though. I have a 10mbit cable
at home and am looking at doing the same thing.. it has to
be 100% reliable though.
