  1. Hi,

I just got my NEC 2510A couple days ago. Already started burning. Currently using DVD Shrink for reauthoring. But I noticed that when I try to back up my dvd disc I see COMPRESSION! I change it to don't compress and guess what, it's now 7000mb.

How is it possible that the original disc got 7000mb of data fit into it? I thought most dvds are 4.7gb. Since I'm gonna compress the DVD it's not really the same as the original dvd is it?

Is there a way to make perfect back ups of your dvds?

If you are backing up an original DVD, one you bought or rented, most of those are dual-layered so they can hold approx. 8.5GB. DVD-R discs are only single layered and can hold only about 4.7GB. So if you are going to backup a dvd with DVD Shrink, you have to compress it so it will fit onto 1 DVD-R.

  3. ohhhh, i thought that dvds are all 4.7gb and the dual layers are the ones that have two face. Do you know where they sell dual layer discs?

You may want to waiy a while as consumer dual-layered DVD technology is still in its infancy and a little pricey. You may want to go ahead and make two DVD disks for your movie if you are particular about not compressing. Check the Author section at left for a guide you can live with.
    Hello.

Renting a DVD gives you no right to make a copy of it, that would be illegal...

yeah I just used dvd authoring to make backups of my dvds. splitted it into two disc. splitting up 2 dual layer discs came out with 4 dvds!

also, someone said that dual layer dvd burners as of now sucks? so this nec 2510a sucks? dammit if it does.

are you talking about the discs or the drive itself?

    Dual layer drives:

    1. Only burn at a maximum of 2.4x, meaning it takes literally an hour and a half (give or take) to backup a single DVD.

    2. Use uber-expensive media... making it almost cheaper to just buy another copy of the DVD.

    3. Are a bit flaky with setting layer break points and such.

Any of the above is liable to change at any time, without notice. LOL.
