Ok, well I have finally discovered what the problem is. It isn't the cables or other household appliances at all! What I discovered after a series of different tests is that it's my P.O.S. samsung TV! This is just another reason why I am going to upgrade to a 48" HDTV in the upcoming weeks and get rid of this piece of crap since you may remember a past post regarding how my TV has degraded in quality and stuff over the past 7 years. Thanks for your help on this, it must just be the jack in the back of the set that is going bad. It took an hour of my time and another tv to figure it out.
    Thanks again!

glad you got it solved. the tv is probably just not receiving the signal properly, like you said probably the cable jack going bad.

well if you have an old video i'd plug the aerial into that and use rca video cable to connect to the TV, then just change channels on the video.

unless it's so old it doesn't have rca jacks

Funny, but it does have rca inputs and outpust on the front and back. I actually was thinking about trying to transfer the coaxial cable into rca jacks but I would need an RF demodulator instead of the regular RF modulator. Unless you know of a way to change the signal from coaxial to rca i will probably have to stick with coaxial cable.

like i said, use a VCR. it has a demodulator (tuner) in it, and should have RCA outputs - assuming it's not a cheapass piece of junk

Then just tune all your channels into the VCR and use it's remote to change. just leave your TV set to AV1 or 2, or whichever you plug your RCA leads in.

It's usualy better to do it that way too. most VCR's have a signal booster too and the RCA composite will look better in picture, as long as your VCR is a decent tuner.

Yeah, thanks. I am going to buy a VCR and use it as my tv tuner instead. I wonder if HHgregg would give me a deal on one if I'm buying a $1500 tv? LOL.

Good point. BTW, thanks again for all your help. And also the AverMedia capture card turns out to work very well. On the downside I now am out of PCI slots on my computer. Oh well.
    Thanks again!

Yeah, even BestBuy, Circuit City, Sears, and sometimes regular local places will throw in a VCR and/or DVD Player, or even a combo unit with the purchase of something over $500-$1000. Make sure the VCR is 4 head and the DVD Player plays MP3s.

Well, just wanted to get your guys' thoughts but even though I will probably be replacing this shitty tv of mine in the next month or so, I wanted to get a bit more info. on my white line prob. Here's what I did and I am truly puzzled by it. I tried hooking my TV up to a VCR using RCA cables which I thought would solve my white line problem since the coaxial cable wouldn't be directly connected to the TV. Wrong! Lines were still there and just didn't change at all. Now, I would take another TV and hook it up to the exact same line coming from the wall that hooks up the TV with the problem. Again no lines whatsoever. I even moved the TV into different spots in the same vicinity of the other TV and still no lines. So my question is, do you think this is just an internal problem with my TV since I can't seem to get the lines to appear at all on the other TV? Also, the tv with the problems is a 25" and the other one I used for testing purposes is a 13" since it was easy to move.

Try your Big TV in another outlet closer to the original input source and see what happens from there. If you still get white lines, there is one one guess you can make, and it would then have nothing to do with the TV.

That's a good thought. I will drag my TV downstairs then. Thanks.

Ok, well I am convinced now. It was going to be too much work for me to move my big tv downstairs so here is what I did. We have another TV on a kind of rolling TV cabinet that makes it easy to move. It's a fairly good size TV like mine so I thought it would be a good test. I hooked it up in my room to the same cable once again and as usual NO lines. So it looks to be my TV after all. But what puzzles me is why I still get the white lines when I hook my TV up to a VCR using the Red, White, Yellow phono cables and using the VCR as my tuner. It's weird but definitely looks like it's my TV regardless of whether I hook it up to the cable with RCA plugs or straight coaxial cable.

Updated: Cable company called last week and said they have discovered a problem in the main line that is affecting a number of other homes besides mine. Said they would have it fixed next week.

    Hello,

    "NEXT WEEK"

Yeah right - try the 15th of March

Anytime you get a contractor estimate add ten days (just ask Flaystus and his broadband fiasco...)

That's what I was afraid of when the tech guy that called said that they would have to send it on to their maintenece dept. and they would have 3-5 days to have the prob. resolved. I did see Insight trucks about a mile up the road alongside a farm field but I couldn't tell what exactly they were doing.
