  1. Looking for recommendations on DVD authoring software to capture, edit and burn for $300 or less. Want one software that will do it all (or the most possible) with as many features such as transitions, menu building, etc that I can get. Have many home movies captured already using Sonic, as mpeg2 files and more still to capture. Need to burn DVD+R, +RW. Computer is 2.4 intel, 768 ram, nec nd-1100a. Since I am not super tech, reliability and simplicity a plus. (what a wish list huh?)

Try DVD Movie factory from Ulead. There's a fully functional 30day trial version you can download and check it out and the full version costs $100. IMO, the quality is not the greatest though, but you are the one to decide.

Well, it's like the man says... reliability, simplicity, quality... pick any two.

you can find all-in-ones that simplify the process and give you an okay number of editing and authoring features, but the price you pay is that the hands-on tweaking (and the quality and knowledge of process that you gain from it) is hidden behind the big red buttons that say "click here to ... "

you may find that you aren't very happy with the options or quality, but you have no direct control over either, and to gain it you'd need to get other software which breaks up the process (capture with one, edit with another, encode with a third, author with a fourth)... but you start back at square one with each piece.

then again, if you enough quality and flexability with an all-in-one, more power to you. only you can be the judge of that.
