  1. I need to rip a DVD to a single large MPEG in order to edit the movie. After completeing the editing I will be writing it back to a DVD so I don't need any format conversion or audio converion that would be required go go to SVCD. The reason I need to do this is "DR Who" DVD's proivides the eps as 24 minute segements and I want to edit out the end and start of each segment in order to create a single movie without the breaks of the show starting and ending 6 or more times.

  2. Use TMPGDVDAuthor or DVDShrink to do the cutting and re-authoring.

I think what fbrown540's real intention is to edit out the beginning and the end of each segment/episode so he can put more on a single DVD.
Joining the whole thing into one giant vob before editing will becomes a more differcult task later when trying editing.

    @fbrown540

I do this all the time with TV episodes, I use TMPGDVDAuthor to do all the cutting and ' joining '.
If you don't have TMPGDVDAuthor, you can use DVDShrink also. And the best thing is everything is in-sync.
I prefer TMPGDVDAuthor, because I can create a nice menu with it.

I use a program called MPEG Video Wizard by to edit my mpeg-2 streams. I find it frameaccurate in cropping, it's simple to use and it won't re-encode unless you decide to add transitions or change video format.

  6. Again, dear people,
The two programs I mentioned for this purpose which there is no need to de-mux/ re-mux the vob files, all you need to do is import the vob files and edit. It is really simple.

  7. Autually a Dr Who title is around 90 to 120 minutes long. However the BBC split each title into 4 to 7 parts that were shown once a week. When the shows were aired here on PBS stations in the 80's each title had been spliced together to make one movie lenght show without the begging and ending ep theme every 25 minutes. The splicing is difficult becuase it requires frame accuracy to get a professional job. I am not attempting to put more on a DVD or even keep the special features. I have software to perform every part of the problem except getting the DVD ripped to one long MPEG, no conversion or compression needed. The sugession to merge the VOB files might work, since I can then edit the one file and then reburn to a DVD. The last time I tried TMPGEN's MPEG editor it did not have frame accuracy.

  8. With Womble MPEG Video Wizard, you don't even need to rip the DVD or convert to one big file. You can simply load the .VOB's in as they are, edit them (frame accurate), drag the edited clips into the timeline and save. A finished .mpg will be created without re-encoding and it is very fast. Then you author your new .mpg with TMPGEnc DVD Author or some other authoring software. Simple and easy.

Oh, yeah... you can try MPEG Video Wizard unrestricted for 30 days to see if it works for you.

Stupid question - When using womble, do you have to deCSS and de macro the vob (as well as copy to your hard drive i.e. rip) or can you edit directly from the original DVD?
Hope is the trap the world sets for you every night when you go to sleep and the only reason you have to get up in the morning is the hope that this day, things will get better... But they never do, do they?

  10. I can rip the movie portion with DVD Decrypter, which gives me 4 .vob files. The mpeg editor I am using will edit the .vob's (I have already tried that). But with the authoring software I am using
(Movie Factory), I couldn't figure how to put them back on a DVD. I am only using Movie factory to process a MPEG file and create the DVD format. I am not using it to create menu's or anthing fancy. Just shove the DVD in and let start as soon as its inserted.

You can choose file mode, go to the "Settings tab", and choose not to split your .Vobs. Then go to Stream Processing tab, and decide what you wanna demux...

    Good luck!!

Try ripping one of the episodes by cells with DVD Decrypter. One of the individual cells may contain the end credits. If they do just delete it,then merge the cells back to one vob.

Yes, if it is a commercial DVD you must rip it to your HDD and remove the encryption (and I always remove the region code, too). Womble won't open copy-protected files.
