  1. I was reading some of the comments and someone mentioned "Sliders". What a great show. I cant believe they cancelled it. I keep looking for the reruns to watch.

I am sure anyone over 20 remembers "V". What a great mini series. Any opinions on that?

  2. V was a great series. I also liked VR5 (stood for virtual reality 5)
but it was canceled after a short run. That was an intelligent SF
    show.

  3. VR5, i remember that one now when you mentioned it, the best scifi series without aliens. Really good.
Talking about discontinued series, i loved "Space: Above and Beyond", and ofcourse the biggest disaster in scifi history; Only 13 eps of Crusade

Legend of the rangers was a disaster...
Crusade was an excellent show which canceled for "internal TNT reasons"
Legend of the rangers was a disaster pilot of a series that might had something to show (cross over with crusade...)

But we are not talking shows here, we talking movies.

  5. I'm going to have to say "Star Trek" but if the 11th flick doesn't ALSO defy the even/odd rule a la Nemesis (Meaning it's a GOOD movie!) I'm going to have to restrict it to "Star Trek, BEFORE Insurrecton!" meaning everything up to, well here's my list in order of favorite to least-favorite.

    1. Star Trek: First Contact (1996; 8th Film. The BEST Trek flick ever! Assimilate This!)

    2. Star Trek II: The Wrath Of Khan (1982; KHAAAAAAAAANNNNNN!!!!!!!! Originally "The Revenge Of Khan" but both Paramount and Lucas had "Revenge" films coming out, "The Revenge Of Khan" and "The Revenge Of The Jedi" and both subsequently wound up changing titles. Although perhaps this film should just be called "KHAAAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNN!!!!" in the next release! )

    3. Star Trek III: The Search For Spock (1984; "My God Bones, what HAVE I done?!" GREAT Film, really just a continuation of TWOK, ok it wasn't AS GOOD but it had it's charm! The most depressing scene had to be the destruction of the 1701, if only for the fact that it follows right after Kirk loosing his son! The best line: "That Green-blooded Son of a B**ch! This is his payback for al those arguments he lost!")

    4. Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979; Ok, this was really a TV Pilot with some scenes clipped from a few episodes of "Star Trek: Phase II" aka the "Lost Series" which would have brought back everyone but Spock. V'ger was originally named N'sa -- take a guess what that means! Basically Phase II was canned and Robert Wise did TMP; he didn't put his name on it until the Director's Edition DVD though where he was happy to fix a lot of his "budget-forced mistakes" and the Director's Edition is a great watch! I've only seen the 1983 edition on VHS and the Director's Edition DVD, I'd love to get my hands on the 1979 VHS release, complete with all disasters intact just to see how it was originally relased though.)

    5. Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country (19??; I can't remember the release year, but I do love the Klingon's demonstrating thier mannerrs, or lack thereof!"

    6. Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home (1987? I LIKED this a lot more, but after awhile it seemed more like a "joke" than "real" Trek to me. Also, I haven't fully watched the SE DVD, but PLEASE tell me they but the scene with the giant "ENTERPRISE" sign in right before Check goes "And sir, it's the Enterprise!" I will say this though, The "Whale Probe" seemed like just another V'Ger to me.)

    7. Star Trek: Generations (1994; 7th Film. The reason this is so low is because it retcon's my FAVORITE TNG Episode! When Kirk was "Killed" Scotty was the one who found him MISSING! In TNG's "Relics" Worf frees him from the Transporter and tells them what ship they're from. Scotty distinctly remarks "The Enterprise?! Why Jim Kirk Must've hauled the ol' thing outta mothballs just to come lookin' for me!" Which makes me wonder who was checking continuity here! The best FX Scene had to be the Saucer crashign into Veridian III and the best line, well... singing Androids are quite humorous!)

    8. Star Trek V: The Final Frontier (19??; "It's a SONG you POINTY-EARED FREAK! It doesn't matter what it means, it matters that you SING IT!" If they hadn't cut the budget and thrown a rookie's script in Shatner's face, or rather, FOUR Rookie's scripts and ONE Veteran's script, this may have worked! The idea was good, but it ripped off TMP and and was done poorly, no FX and no real plot either! What's worse, it disgraced the 1701-A, the coolest ENT aside from the 1701-E! I wish that Paramount had done a REAL Director's Cut on this, replacing all the FX and several scenes, including the "Rocket Boots in Turbo Shaft" scene with some new deck markings instead of the ones that defied starship design! Not to mention deleting that disgraceful scene with Scotty hitting his head on a low-ceiling!)

    9. Star Trek: Insurrection (1998; If ST: V was bad, this was worse! The plot of Alien speices in distress, enemy is related to them, enemy deploy's destructive device, destructive device blows up, crew saves the day. Is mixing Star Wars, and thhe TOS Episode "Balance of Terror" and the bucthering of the original "Fountain of Youth" idea that LITERALLY causes the crew to grow younger was MUCH more interesting than the Son'a/B'aku plot! This wasn't a movie, it was a 2-hour episode shot in Widescreen! Let's here it for the Pilot of "TNG Phase II: The Next LOST Generation!" That's what this should have been and flying the best Enterprise ever witha Joystick!? That should have required about five Crewmembers to move it like something on an old steamer!)

    10. Star Trek: Nemesis (2002; 10th Film. Sadly I remember seeing this tragedy on opening day! It had it's good point but they cut an HOUR of script including most of the Wedding, a few scenes with Wesley's return, and the idea fo actually SHOWING the Titan, Riker's ship! Now to really make people sick, the whole Spock/Katra rip-off and the Insurrection Rip-off made this a pile of plots like ST: V was! Also, did the Enterprise run out of lightbulbs!? The bridge was well lit, but the corridors made me feel like it was REMAN Ship, and the Scimitar was another way of saying "Collector" which was, and still IS another way of saying "Death Star" -- Shinzon's entire upbringing was pretty much cut, and the Remans were downplayed to a point where they became mere "Aliens of the Week" instead of a more forceful foe! I wanted a Romulan movie, thanks alot guys! "Spock" was originally Romulans instead of Klingons, and now, they get their movie and are practically ignored! This should be labeled Star Trek XI, and the next movie should read "Star Trek X: Catchy Title Here" and be shoved between this mess and the last mess as an "insert" -- then we could fix the even/odd rule again and this film wouldn't be as bad as it seems.)

Also, if you want to draw Voyager easily, look at an upside-dwon SPOON! Yes, a SPOON was the inspiration for the ship! Turna spoon over and try to draw it, then draw your nacelles and attach them, add any detail, and you have voyager! I find it harder to draw the Defiant! Voyager, well I've got a ton of Voyager's sitting in my kitchen!

I agree with you about Crusade. Given the chance I believe
that Crusade could have spawn at least a couple of movies
and could have possibly rivaled even star treck.

Why in the hell was it cancled? Anyone know?

because it wasn't B5. and i don't think people liked the story of earth being royally screwed. it seemed a very thin story too, every week they go to a planet to look for an ancient civilisation, and every week they find one! but the ancients are just too advanced for them. oh well, maybe next week?

  11. Crusade was cancelled because of some disagreements between J. Michael and TnT, and i guess neither of them are allowed to make more crusade episodes on their own. JMS found new partners, i think Jeremiah was not made by TnT.
Maybe Crusade wasnt the best story, but it had some good aspects. Just see how trekkers love the Enterprise, in my opinion the Excalibur is way more of a ship to build a story around. Excalibur is another example of B5 having more "realistic" technology, even if its supposed to be based partly on Vorlon tech it has some limitations, for ex that the main weapon will disable navigation for a while.
No matter what, i think Crusade was a big step up after B5 Season5.

  14. Why does everyone dislike Alien3? Sure it not that heavy on action, but it has some great scenes. Like the eloquent soliloquy by the bald black guy (at the funeral), and some great lines, “everyone going to die…are you going to die fighting?...”(something like that). Surely the screenplay is better than Aliens…..and you don’t get that whiner saying “game over man!!!” every three mins.

Star Trek, with 2, 4 6 and 8 all being fairly good. Even the misses in the series looked fairly good on screen.. T and T2 are way up there too with the very compelling storyline and better execution, but only a few to choose from.

But for the best 73+ hour long movie, watch all 88 eps of Farscape back to back. More than a few eps that were a bit off, but the best parts are some of the very best.

Was Mork and Mindy a Trilogy?

Has anyone who owns T2 Ultimate Edition entered the special code to get the 3rd version of the movie on the DVD?

IMHO very little SCI-FI in any of these films, but all were fun to watch at least once. Just to drop a name of a series, does anyone remember "Max Headroom" from the 80's? It was decent SCI-FI. I loved the show, though it totally bombed in its first and only season. I knew it wouldn't last, for it presented the TOTAL antithesis of the Star Trek society, which was also why I liked it.

Don't kill me for this - Totally excellent SCI-FI in a so so movie: Zardoz!!!

Well the plot outline was thin but the story was rich. Plenty of
building blocks as a basis to finish the current plot and have
    them move on.

poerschr asked: Why does everyone dislike Alien3?
Easy. Ripley crashes on an isolated prison planet. She's clearly up
the duff from the Alien from the start. Alien baby two grabs the
dog. You just know what's going to happen next. and next. and next.
The only (poor) surprise is the android look alike Dr. that comes on the
rescue ship. Is her or friend or foe? .. I mean really?

Alan69: But for the best 73+ hour long movie, watch all 88 eps of Farscape back to back.
Farscape? They should have called it muppets in space. A childish
plot imo and not suitable for adults; where most other SF offerings
    suit mixed audiences.

TheFamilyMan said Don't kill me for this - Totally excellent SCI-FI in a so so movie: Zardoz!!!
I will kill you Zardoz was an excellent film. It was a perfect
play on Brave New World except this time the savage destroyed
civilization. Two worlds, one advanced but decedent, one barbarian
but pure. Which deserves to survive? Lovely stuff

Ok If I was given the money and the skill the first SF related
project I would attempt as a producer/director would be
a sequel to Bladerunner. I love the atmosphere of that film.

  25. Muppets in space, LOL. I liked Farscape, i would call it "Family SciFi". Many girls like Farscape i noticed, not many of us can sit down and watch Babylon5 with girlfriend/wife, but Farscape? Oh yes, they like.

  26. Unfortunatly Farscape never came to Israel, but I was lucky enough to see it while I was in Michigan last year, they had some sort of a Marathon of it and then the Incredible Hulk (original non-animated version) and I thought it was pretty good, although I missed the first episodes, and I don't like having my series being ended with a climax and no continuation!

Precisely my point! Zardoz was crammed full of excellent SCI-FI, but the movie itself, though it is one of my all-time favorites, sort of drags along.

I voted for planet of the apes .. still great production to this date (not the lame remake though - which was pity-full) ..

do you know they are now remaking the star wars movies over yet again with new effects ... talk about milking a dead cow ...

I'm surprised no one has mentioned LEXX for a TV series .... some original weirdness there .. or TRIPPING THE RIFT ...

Canada's space channel certainly has it all ..

yeah, i read the darth/obi wan confrontation is being "beefed up", yoda is more like his episode 2 alter ego, the CGI jabba will look "better" (yeah, right), Hayden Christenson will appear aged as the unmasked anakin ( ), and loads of other effects will be redone completely.

Glad i have my OT lasers.....
