Hi all,
After a fair bit of time searching this excellent site's resources, I haven't yet found a suitable guide for what I want to do - and I don't think its a unusual request. I'd like to take a few favourite episodes from across many season discs and compile them onto a few disc which are just my selected episodes.
Yes, I know DVD Shrink allows this if the VOBs are pre-ripped to the HD first, I just drag and drop!
However, I would like to create a simple menu that can just point to the individual episodes with the episode names and season info which I would input. I believe DVD-Lab can do this too.
But here's the trick, how can I still fiddle with the re-encode like DVD-Shrink to fit more episodes onto a DVD-R (nothing outragious, maybe 80% quality will let me fit another episode on the disc). If only DVD Shrink had a very basic menu facility too.
Additionally, will the newly added VOBs also have chapter breaks/searches too - so I might skip the opening credits or to the commercial breaks?
Thanks.

If you want simple menu's, chapters etc then use TMPGEnc DVD Author and if your project is too big use DVD Shrink to shrink.

Smartripper to rip what you want, instead of the whole thing.
DVDLab to author.Cheers, Jim

OK, so let me get this straight (please correct me if I'm wrong)
1. Rip the episodes I want to HD (straight rip 100% no compression), and name the parent directory "season and episode names" to distinguish them, but leave the Video_TS directories and VOBs the name they were ripped in (assuming the chapter breaks are in the VOB files?).
2. Compile the DVD-R in some program like DVD-Lab or TMPGEnc DVD Author as a full 9Gb (or whatever) DVD with menu - and save out to some Compiled DVD directory.
3. Open the Compiled DVD directory in DVD Shrink to fit it onto a 4.7Gb DVD-R in full disc mode to include the menu created above.
So does this work? -
I think this is the guide you want to look at:

wm_cheng,
There is a more simple way to do this.
Rip each episode into a seperate folder. name the folders accordingly.
But remember, you have to also copy every .IFO files for each episode too.
Now open TMGEnceDVDAuthor , and click on add new video. Navigate to one of the folders and the window will show the video file, click on that and click edit, if the file already has chapter points, it will show up. If not just add your own. Then click ok.
After you return to the add source window, just click ' add new track' on the left pane, and repeat the process. Besure to name each of episodes.
After you have added alll the episodes, click the creat menu button on top.
Choose whatever template you want and adjust them anyway you want.
( Read the guides on TDA , you can make a motion menu too )
Next click the authoring button on top and select a new folder for your new disc. TDA will ask you that the videos is too big for a DVDR just click ignore and proceed.
After TDA finished, use DVDShrink to shrink the final disc.
If you're confuse on any of the steps, post again.
EDIT:
Sorry I didn't read your previous post thoroughly. Your steps are the same steps I suggested.
