    People often recommend TBC's to defeat macrovision. I believe this advice is incorrect. I don't have a TBC so I can't say for sure. I wouldn't go out and by a TBC for this purpose unless someone can tell you that they have actually backed up a Disney video with that method.
    Interesting observation. I may put that to test. I recently acquired a VCR with a built-in TBC and I think I have a Disney video around somewhere (I got kids....)
    Having a Disney video (it's actually Jungle Book with a preview for Little Mermaid), I decided to test this. I connected my Toshiba VCR (built-in TBC) to my Sony SLV-575UC and recorded to tape. I then captured the tape from my SLV-575UC and this is what I got:

    One is with the TBC engaged and one is not. I can't remember which. Both acted the same. After this spell of freaked out colors, it cleared up and then started to fade to black. I didn't capture that much, just enough to see that it wasn't making a difference. One thing I didn't do was test the tape by playing it back in my Toshiba with the TBC engaged. I may, I may not. I've been through some beers....

    Hey, I don't have kids and I've got lots of Disney videos. I love old ones like "The Computer wore Tennis Shoes".

    TBC's built in VCR's or DVD recorders are generally one line TBC, not full frame and indeed, that won't do the job;
    those built in TBC are only intented to stabilise weak video signals, for example from older tapes

  4. The most robust and affordable true TBC is the Datavideo TBC-1000

    It will defeat MV, no problem
