Ritchie Blackmore/Rainbow/Deep Purple
and The Cult
Not really the "bang your head" or hair bands but still fall under heavy metal
Of the ones you have listed, Def Leppard's best is Switch 625 from the 1981 album, High 'N' Dry - that's when they really rocked -
sheesh forgot about GNR must've been that spaghetti incident thing. they're Apetite was a great album though! I guess that's a vote for Other! Also left off Air Supply & John Denver...

Never mind all this def leppard crap - I've just discovered slayer tickets are on sale !

I don't see why he has such a weird effect on people - he's a burned out, alcoholic, drugged-up goth who shakes more than an excited alzheimers clinic. -
Yeah, Iron Maiden rock. Slayer are OK but I haven't heard much of their stuff.
I'm listening to InMe just now.

Actually lately I've been listening to slipknot, they look like a bunch of jackasses but they have some good muisc if thats the kind your into. -

As for my vote:
I'm not seeing a Led Zeppelin optionseriously??
Also not seeing a Black Sabbath option
Those might be pre-burnman days but Ozzy was the best Ozzy when he was with Black Sabbath...IMO.
So of the choices...ACDC. They are my favorite anyway but they run neck and neck with Zep.
And why TF is Barry Manilow on the list?????? I would rather listen to drunk crickets 69-ing than listen to him -
How can the title of this poll be favorite Heavy Metal band and then include the likes of sissy girl rock bands like bon jovi & poison. Those are not heavy metal.
Good heavy music is:
Project 86
POD
Old metallica (anything in the 80's) -
POD counts as heavy metal?
Northcat, i don't really care - you understood the joke -
If a woman has parkinsons does her whole body shake like that or just her hands?
Cause if her whole body shakes like that........... -

yeah i was not specific enough on this poll...i was going for more of the
"Big Hair 80's" version of metal, not classic rock or death metal. But hey, that's what this poll is all about. Definitely needed an option for Cinderella & Stryper (yes Stryper, doesn't matter if they are religious, they had monster hair & cheesy outfits) and Sheesh i left out my fave metal band the Scorpions! As far as stuff like Floyd & Zeppelin, that's a whole other poll/genre, maybe a favorite guitarist poll there. As far as the Manilow thing goes, i was joking of course, buy hey I used to an album by him in the early 80's hey i was young...Maybe we can get TGPO & the BSOD's to do metal cover tunes of "Mandy" & "All out of Love" and "Rocky Mountain High"! Now that would ROCK!

Metallica.
Seen 'em in concert at the Big Day Out with a crowd of 50,000. The atmosphere and the music was just awesome.
Guns and Roses would also get an honourable mention for November Rain. AC / DC would also have to get a mention for their classics.
I would consider some of the bands on that list Rock bands though, not Heavy Metal. It'd be like KISS being classified as Heavy Metal. -
where's T Rex then?
i remember listening to pink floyd with my dad when i bought my first pair of decent speakers. a big pair of wharfedale floorstanders, in the cellar (my bedroom at the time) and it was great. long time ago now... -
have to agree with Northcat, no Black Sabbath option is a serious oversight... voting for Ozzy isn't the same thing.
as for best Death Metal poll, bring it on... Deceased, Abominog, Entombed's "Left Hand Path", Macabre, Human Remains, Carcass.... mmmmm, good stuff.- housepig
