  1. I have an external DVDRW drive, with Nero 5.5. When it try to burn a .mpg file, it tells me that Nero can only handle .vob files. How can I convert the mpg's to vob so that I can use Nero to burn a DVD movie?

  3. I read all of the dvd authoring guides on this site, and none explained how to import .mpg files into Nero for dvd burning purposes.

Are you creating DVDs? or VCDs?

For NERO to burn DVDs, your MPG files must be authored to DVD files...with an authoring tool...(DVD-Lab, TMPGENC-DVD author, etc...)

    NERO 5.x does not "author"

It doesn't even burn that well, unless you use UDF mode.

  6. OK, I fired up tmpgenc author and tried to import my .mpg file, it says that I can only use these resolutions: 352x240 352x480 704x480 720x480 pixels (NTSC format only).

My current resolution is 320x240, how can I change the resolution without re-encoding?

You can't. You could however try to fool TDA by patching the header (or is this only possible with mpeg2? Not sure...) with DVDPatcher to 352*240 (valid NTSC DVD resolution). If it will play without problems nasty side effects is another thing, but might be worth a try.

You cant. You are attempting to burn a non compliant file onto a DVD. To do so will require reencoding to make it compliant, then authoring (usinf something else) to compile it into DVD format.

  9. Your profile says you have an Apex dvd player. Why not burn the .mpg file in DVD-ROM (ISO) mode in Nero. Most low-end Apex players should play raw mpg files...no matter the resolution. Use a -/+ RW to test this. But I'd bet the Apex will handle it.

Actually, the DVD is not for me, but some friends with various DVD players. I ended up re-encoding the out-of-spec files, and am currently burining the DVD+RW in my burner (56% done). Thanks for your help.
