I am dubious as whether to opt for a built in HDD for a my DVD Recorder I intend to buy or (if possible) get an external drive. If it is possible will it work in the same way as a built in one? I understand that you can edit adverts etc directly from a built in one, not that I have a clue how. However could this also be done with an external one?

I really want to be absolutely 100% sure that with my DVD+rw built in combo writer, will there be a way to copy or is RIP the word the content of the DVD-RW disc onto Windows XP C drive, edit it and re-write it onto a DVD+RW disc compatible with my system? As most recorders with HDD only record in DVD-RW, if I want to do some further editing on my C Drive, would this be somehow possible? Many Thanks.

There is no way you can connect an external HDD to a set-top DVD recorder or add one internally to a non-HDD model, see the following link for more details:

And you can certainly transfer the DVD content recorded from your set-top recorder to your computer's hard drive, no matter what type of DVD media you use and burn the same content to whatever media you desire, as long as you have the right software to do it.
