  1. So I got this uber high resolution (1920x1080) .ts file from newsgroups its 9gb for one movie. VLC can play the file fine. But I want to convert it to something a bit more space friendly to store on my server. I know the video in the .ts file is some sort of mpeg2 and im pretty sure the audio is ac3, but I cant find any progs that can convert it. VDub parses the file fine, but when it gets done, it just displays a bunch of green nonesense. I demuxed the audio from the .ts and thats it. DVD2AVI crashes when it starts converting the movie no matter what settings/codec I use.

    help?

  2. ts files are transport mpg streams.

try renaming the file to mpg and then convert to whatever format you'd like. not sure if it will work but you can give it a try.

Why don't you ask the newsgroup where you got this file from?

AFAIK you need PVAStrumento to convert ts to normal mpeg2.

  6. PVAStrumento crashes as well

Doom 9 site has a ready to go version on the download page.

But your problem is gunna be that the quality (bitrate) of your movie is way above DVD spec, normal SD TV is roughly mid DVD spec. (6000 - 7000kb/s) So even when you demux it successfully, your going to have to re-encode it.

dont do things the hard way ..

bbtools demux or ][muxer (moonlight cordless) or manzinita will demux the streams easy enough ..

there might be more than 1 stream but unlikly , but if there is , pick the ones you want.

you will have a m2v file and a ac3 file (though transport streams will take different types of audio files than just ac3)

now you want to ruin the picture and make it smaller ?

why did you download the HD file then ?

you will have to resize it and re-encode to a different mpeg profile ..

if you want to keep quality and make smaller - encode it to a wmv9-HD file ....

i downloaded the hd file because it was the only version I could find on ngs. And I just checked again, and the hd one that i already have is still the only copy of it there.

anyay, ill try out those progs you referred. thanks.

you can also drop a ts file into both mainconcept and into procoder and they will convert it just fine, you might be able to use tmpegenc also

procoder will even let you chose which streams to use and will read and convert the ac3 file

  16. ][muxer demuxed the files fine, but the only prog that i had that would read (not play, WMP crashed trying to play it, VLC still played it fine) was vdubmod. I tried load up the plain mpg file into tmpgenc, but it couldnt read it, so I set up vdubmod to frameserv and its converting it right now to something more usable. Hopefully flaskmpg will be able to convert the mpg to a nice avi file for my server that doesnt take up 9gb O.o

thanks for all the help people.

windvd and media player classic will play those HD m2v files

powerdvd will often crash or not play them at all ..

v-dubmod, as you mentioned also playes them fine

  18. yay, finally got it converted to avi.

I used ][muxer to demux the video, I used to dvd2avi to demux the audio, I used vdubmod to convert the demuxed mpg's to avi and nandub to mux the ac3 audio and avi video, plays fine in VLC and does odd stuff in WMP.

thanks for all the help everyone!

you could have de-muxed the ac3 in ][muxer and muxed the ac3 w/ the avi in v-dubmod saving yourself a few steps

  20. the reason i demuxed the ac3 from the .ts with dvd2avi is because that's what i tried first to convert it, and all it could do was demux the audio, so i had the ac3's but no video.

and the reaosn i muxed the audio and video together with nandub instead of vdubmod is because vdubmod cant open ac3's.

v-dubmod doesnt have to open ac3 files to mux them ...

just use the "streams" selection and add the ac3 file
