  1. I'm hoping to find a freeware command-line tool to extract the audio from a .wmv, my target format is .mp3 (11025Hz, Mono, 24Kbps)

Does anyone know of such a tool?

  2. D/L:
    TMPGEnc
    LAME.EXE
1.Drop Lame.exe into tmpgenc folder then enable in Environmental Settings.
2.Open TMPGEnc and in "Audio Source" select your .wmv file.
3.Hit "Settings" and select "MPEG-1 Layer III" and choose bitrate.
    4.Hit Start.

Note:this won't work if the file is DRM protected,if so play the video and record analog using Audacity.

  3. Thanks! That was helpful... but...

The TMPGEnc interface (I've got TMPGEnc Plus-2.521.58.169) doesn't let me select a bit rate as low as 24kbps, nor a sample rate as low as 11025Hz.

I can use lame to do this on the command line, but I'm not that familair with .wmv - is there a command-line tool to do the demux? If so, what format would the resulting audio be in?

  5. I used Goldwave. It was pretty easy - drop'd the file on the app, and selected 'Save as' and set it to mp3 11025 24kbps mono and it worked.

I still would really like to know if there is a comand line tool to demux the audio from a .wmv file.

    You could also possibly :>

Load the wmv file into windows media encoder. Reencode the movie as "Uncompressed"

note: you will need about 22 gigs HD space for a 320x240, 1 hour 45 minute movie.

This new wmv file can now be opened into VirtualDub where you can save audio track as wav

  7. FFMPEG is the answer. This freeware command-line utility allows me to give a wmv as input and specify the output as mp3. It is very flexibile and allows a multitude of i/o formats.
