  1. Hi Guys!
Now I have got some NTSC recordings that my VCR plays fine, but when I go to copy them to a dvd-r via my Panasonic DMR-E50, it goes all shacky, and if I select NTSC format on the dvd recorder, then the picture is still but it is in Black and White!!!! This is really starting to annoy me, so please try to help!!!!?
I am a dvd novice, please don't be funny with me! :(

Your VCR is NOT outputting a true NTSC signal. It is doing that "quasi" signal that is acceptable to view. Most European PAL equipment can handle NTSC material BUT....it is not converting it to a true NTSC signal which most DVD Recorders(including my Philips) cannot record correctly.
You can change settings on your Panasonic until you are blue in the face and it won't help the problem. The problem lies in the VCR. If your VCR was under $400....it's not "converting" the signal....it's just making it acceptable.
Here is the one I own:

I paid a bit less for it however...but not much.
