  1. I was wondering, you see, I want to save a copy of a vcd movie on my hard drive, but the dat file I directly copied is too large. What format can I convert it to which is much smaller in size, though able to retain the quality of the movie? And what program can I use to convert it.

    Thanks in advance.

  2. DivX. Load it into virtual dub, resize to 320X240 or 352X264 using Lanczos3 filter, add any cleanup filters if necessary, do a two pass encode at 450 or so kbps, will look awesome and take up about a fourth the space or so. Encode audio as MP3 128 kbps stero or 64 kbps mono.

Since he's re-encoding a VCD (1150 Kbps) the file will be about 1/3 the size using the above setting.
