I see squeezing 5 movies onto a DVD as pretty stupid. Time is money.
Well if thats what you think then why come on this site? This site has been explaining for years on how to compress video and squeeze it onto CD'S which takes time just like other hobbies, perhaps we should give them up as well and all earn a bit more money.

If another 50 cents for another blank is gonna kill you, then you've got problems. I'm not rich either, but I can spend a couple more quarters for better quality.

    To give you an analogy:

People will make LOTR3 into a single 700 MB AVI file. It's a 3 hour movie with 5.1 sound, it can't possible look good.

These same people wil lmake a KVCD of the same movie. Again, it can't possible look good.

A year ago I would have backed it up with a 4 Disk SVCD (50% would have done it as 2 disks, 45% as 3 disk, and 5% as 4 disk), but Today I did it as a 2 Disk DVDR.

My point is it's faster and cheaper to go the extra disk. And the quality is better. Every now and then I drag home the component Projector unit and watch movies at 100" on my living room wall in 5.1 sound. I can see every imperfection there is (whereas I can't on my 27" TV).

Quality is more important than saving 50 cents, even if I have to get up in the middle.

I agree but just wanted to point out that you can even get around the "get up in the middle" part if you buy a 5-disc DVD player. Many models like that now for very reasonable prices. JVC even makes a 7-disc DVD player.

I don't judge the KVCD xVCD variation, neither the ones using it.

And I don't have a problem with Kwag and his ideas. I really like Kwag, don't mention that once, 3 years ago, members of this forum accuse me for ...kwagologism!
Overall, I'm really positive for kwag and I believe that he is a true enthusiast of this scene. He really loves what he is doing. I respect and I admire that.

But calling his -x- variations a format, is a big marketing mistake. This is the only problem with him.
And yes my friend pacheco, you are in the wrong forum. When you need help for the rest things, come again and ask whatever you need to learn.
I'll be here to help you. So the rest of our community.

The only thing I can guess about questions like yours, expecially from newcomers like you Oscar wallace, you rds_correia and you pacheco is that you are not here to ask questions. You are only here to speak about it.
I have been on this site and have never had to ask any question through a post, the guides are brilliant and so is this site, all the questions I wanted to ask where answerd by looking around and reading . Then one day I wanted to see how much you could cram on to one CD-R , tried xsvcd and other stuff and even used DVDshrink to shrink a film to less then 700 mb ( what a mess that was),then found KVCD website and followed the guides and advice burnt my first KVCD and was (and still am) amazed at the quality obtained, don't know about who's idea it was but a lot of people on this site seem hostile towards Kwag .

  7. Quality is in the Eye of the Beholder!
I'm from those who prefer VCD over SVCD for example!

i'm tried SVCD using all encoders and to be honest, on the TV, I saw NO kind of difference then a VCD, except I had to use 3 or 4 CD's for a movie, or if I got lucky, then just 2.

So I made up the SeVCD and SxVCD templates, which are based on VCD but use VBR instead of CBR, that gave me about the same quality but had a lot more movie on the same CD size.

Even now that I have a DVD Burner, i'm still using VCD/SxVCD formats, like now i'm putting the Entire Star Trek Animated in SxVCD on a DVD, that's 22 episodes on a single DVDR media, if I were to use SVCD or DVD, i'd have to use like 3 or 4 discs.

So some people like KVCD, some don't, I don't see why it should bother anyone asking questions about it. Everyone is entitled to their own taste and quality settings.

    Hi SatStorm,
    Here's my opinion.
I look at vcdhelp as the mother of all video backup enthusiasts.
    I am one of those.
Some time ago I learnt a lot here just by browsing and using the search button.
I may not know a lot but I know enough. And most of what I know I learnt here.
And I would feel a bit humiliated if I'd have to shut up or leave vcdhelp just because I'm asking about -x- / K / M or whatever.
The way I see it we're all in the same boat.
Obviously, when asking about K stuff, we should use the K forum and should point people over to that forum.
But that's not what I've seen other people do here before you arrived at this thread. Before that I just read "forget it","crappy" and other stuff.
    I believe that's anti-marketting!
We do have Vcdhelp and their members into a lot of consideration back at KVCD.
I'm a regular poster at KVCD and whenever I see a newbie come by with easy newbie questions I try to help
and I advise him/her to visit vcdhelp because it is a better forum to learn from scratch.
I don't say "stay here and never look for vcdhelp. they only do crappy encodings" or "go there, learn the basics,
but come back asap otherwise you'll go ignorant".
That's just not "our way" down at KVCD.
If someone here feels I tried to start a flame I apologise.
I just wanted to give a good advise to some fellows that were asking about K, that's all.
    Cheers

PS-I'm out of time right now, but as soon as I find some spare time I'll try your way and my way, square and fair. I'll PM you with the results

It is not about the -k- variations of the -x- solutions my friend.

It is about the background of this subject. And it is always end on flames. This time, I speed up the proccess....

When I see 5 - 6 newcomers at the same time visit this forum and asking about the same things, especially on a period which is ruff for some -x- variations, I wonder why this happens.

Afterall, I don't post opinion about the - k - variations. I simply link and point to one very active community: the forum of kvcd.org . A worm, friendly place, specialised on this subject better than anyone in this world.
