I have a new Apex 660 which seems to play SVCD's fine, and most screeners fine, but over 90% of my TS's have serious lip sync issues. I've tried firmware updates with no luck. I've been burning at 24x and wonder if that's the problem (should I kick down to 4x?) I am also considering a differnet player such as the Pioneer 444 or maybe the new Yamaha 520, but only if they have noticeably better video quality and would allow me to burn at full speed. S9ince they are 2 - 3x more expensive) Anyone with these players and a high speed burner, I would appreciate your feedback. Thank you!

Oddly enough, I can't seem to find ANY local store that carries a Pioneer 444, but I did try the same vcd's that desynch in a variety of players and found the following:
The Yamaha 510/520's desync as bad as the Apex
The Yamaha progressive scan flagship player ($1000!!?) worked great
A sony progressive scan worked great and was cheaper, but won't recognize SVCD's...
Not sure why a progressive scan unit would keep synch and the others not, but that appears to be the difference. Too bad I don't have HDTV to use proscan....
Any help out there... anyone? anyone?
