    Hi,

I have a weird problem that I cannot figure out...

I have a DV video which I recorded using a Sony DCR-PC110E (PAL) camera.

I used Firewire and Windows Movie Maker to capture the DV on to my laptop computer.

When I play the resultant .AVI file, everything is fine. However, if I then transfer this file to my desktop computer and play the .AVI file there (just through Windows Media Player), the video plays very slowly (I'd say 60-70% of the speed it should do).

    Both computers are high-spec:

Laptop 3.2 GHz HT Dell Inspiron 9100, 2GB RAM
Desktop 3.4 GHz HT Dell Dimension, 3 GB RAM (Dual Display).

My Windows Update is totally up-to-date with latest DirectX, etc.

    Can anybody please help me?

    Thanks in advance,

    Sigol.

try playing the DV file in virtualdub. try a differenet DV codec, like canopus or mainconcept. does your CPU usage hit near 100% when playing (do ctrl+alt+delete and look in the performance tab)
did you capture in type one or type two?

    Hi flaninacupboard

    Thanks for your help!

If I play the file in VirtualDub it plays at normal speed. However, it comes up with an error message first:

"AVI: Type-1 DV file detected - VirtualDub cannot extract audio from this type of interleaved stream"

However, I can see the video play at what appears to be normal speed (although it would be nice to hear the audio to confirm this).

I am running Windows XP Pro with Media Player 9.00.00.3128. VirtualDub is v. 1.5.10. MainConcept DV Codec is v. 2.4.4.

CPU never goes over 6%. Don't know anything about type 1 or type 2. I used Windows Movie Maker to capture.

Can you help me some more?

    Thanks in advance,

    Sigol.

yes. don't use windows movie maker to capture the DV. capture it using DVapp and select graph mode - "DV to file (Type 2)"

After it's captured you can edit it in movie maker or in virtual dub, and should be able to play it without any problems.
