  1. Since moving, I switched to Cable Internet, got Zone Alarm...and since then things have be kinda wacky.

This problem is with flash games not loading all the way, or not at all. Also, I wanted to check out a couple of movie trailers, but it doesnt want to load all the way...about 1/4 of the way it just stops. Anyway idea why this might be.

I did a virus scan, spyware is not on the PC...everything seems fine, except this.

  2. Two people at work have Comcast at home and have experienced wierdities similar to what you have described. Occassional lock up's and various places.

Both times it was the cable modem and when serviced (swapped out) by Comcast everything cleared up.

Because of this and other anamolies I have heard regarding Cable Inet I will never buy the modem... always rent... thus they can never point to the modem and say that is the problem.

  3. Fragmented packets?

"MTU (Maximum Transmission Unit) is the greatest amount of data that can be transferred in one physical frame on the network.

If a packet that has a smaller MTU than the packet's frame length is sent, fragmentation will occur. For TCP (Transmission Control Protocol) MTU can range from 68 to 1500 bytes. Larger MTUs provide for lower overhead (fewer headers)."

Try something like TCP Optimizer to determine the best settings for your new connection.

Might be Zone Alarm. On a cable or DSL hookup, I prefer a router/switch for firewall protection. Carefully try it without ZA to see if that makes a difference. A recent thread:https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=223175

  6. I remember reading a post about "pages not loading fully" that was resolved through the Linksys Router "MTU" setting.

    Do you use a Router?

  7. I did until I got Cable a month ago...then I just used ZA. The reason is, when I hooked up the router, it looked as though I was online but it wouldnt connect me to any pages. NOW...I have my homepage set at www.google.com but the other day, it went straight to google.co.jp the Japanese version. Everytime I hit Google.com in English it wouldnt go, just right back to the Japanese version...nothing I do is changing this...DAMN...gonna turn off ZA now and see if it will let me.

EDIT: I turned off ZA and as soon as I hit my HOME button, it went to the English version of google. I dunno...something screwy going on here. Any ideas!?
