  1. Hi.

I have done a backup of Monster Inc, I have used the quality dvd backup guide on dvdr-digest.
But I have some problem with the backup. When I start with powerdvd, it just work fine. But when I try to start it in my dvdplayer to the TV, I got problem. (I get the same problem on pc if I try to play it with windvd) It start up, but the screen is black. On the player it stay 19:1. I push the play button on the dvdcontrol 3-4 times, and then It came to there I should pick language. I pick my language, and for the second time I get black screen. I hit the play button 2-3 times and it go to the main menu. And from there it works fine. But if I push the menu button on the control, when It start. Then it go right to the menu root menu. So it jump over the language selection menu. What is wrong? is it possible to fix without rerip? I have done a backup of fightclub to with the same program, and this backup work good. I have done the same thing with this.

    EDIT:
I have tried to backup monster inc for a second time. And I get the same problem.
Sorry if this is posted wrong place.

Thanks for all help I can get.

what program did you use exactly to back it up? i would try to use a different program if you can. i personally recommend dvd shrink, ive used it for all my backups and have never really had a problem with it.

Also try burning the image file that you create using DVDdecrypter.

I am new to this but have had great success with dvdshrink and dvddecrypter.

Should be the only 2 programs you'll need, and they're free.

    I have used this:
    Image creation using DVD Decrypter
Deamon Tools to mount the image file
    Demultiplexing in DoItFast4U
    Re-encoding setup using ReAuthorist
    Re-encoding in DoCCE4U
    Re-authoring setup using ReAuthorist
    Re-authoring using Scenarist
    Final fix-ups using IfoUpdate
ImgTool To create the image file out of the Video_ts folder
    Burning using DVD Decrypter

I have also used dvdshrink for some time. And it is a easy and great program, but the quality is not always good, so if I use the programs I have listed up here, I can get more great quality.

woah, thats a LOT more steps than you need to take. try just using dvd shrink. dont rip to the hard drive, just put the disc in and let shrink do its work. you are using so many programs, any one of then could be causing your problem

  6. I have used Dvdshrink many times on other movies, and the quality is not so good (if I most downsample them much). It is worth to do this steps, so long I get much better quality, so long this use cce. And with this method it is easy to remove a simple thing. I have more control of what I remove and what I want to have. And for the second, I have tried both IC8 and Dvdshrink, and I will say that IC8 is better. As I can see I have got better quality with IC8. So I think that I will try to do a backup of monster inc with IC8, to see if that works.

    But thanks for reply.

  7. when you used dvdsrink did you back up the whole disk (menus and all) or did you just back up the movie? most times i back up just the movie and that keeps the compression around 80-90%. sometimes when i just back up the movie there is no compression needed. if you backup the menus and extras it has to compress the movie more.

    just a though,

yeah, you can use dvd shrink to just get the movie, or just get a specific part of the dvd. use the re-author section.

also, if you think dvdshrink has bad quality, then dont use it. but when you are using a bunch of different programs, and your menus are coming out messed up, i would have to say that the method you are using isnt working right for you. at least dvd shrink works for you.

  9. When I do backup, I want to keep menu.
And for the second, it is just this movie I have some problem with. It just have some starting problem. The menu works fine if I push the menu button on my dvdcontrol when it start. So it is not really so big problem, but I just wanted to know what can be the problem. So I can fix it for eks for next movie, if I get the same problem again.

  10. Many Disney releases include two full versions of the same movie (widescreen and 4:3). I'm pretty sure Monsters Inc. is that way. Use DVD Shrink to save only one of the movies at a time. Forget the menus and extras. Your backup will be at 100% quality that way. I will usually burn a backup for each version (widescreen for our 16:9 TV; full frame 4:3 version for the minivan DVD player).
