  1. I just want to ask probably a simple question.
And I know that is almost impossible to get better quality than your source file (exept filters, etc)

If you have an avi file with 720x480 resolution and lets say it has a 2000 kbps CBR video rate and you want to convert it to mepg2 (m2v) will it make any sense to increase the video bitrates to lets say 4000 kbps constant bitrate and same resolution????

What I am trying to say if I convert to m2v with same resolution and same bitrate will I get exactly the same quality in mpeg2as in the souce avi??? therefore, will increasing the video rate have no result quality???

So, any increse in video rate will compromise disk space for the audio on the original avi.

Please let me know if I am wrong or I am missing something.

An avi can be made with just about any codec, one's you d/l are typically made using divx or xvid. These codecs are highly efficient at compressing video so the bitrate that they require is lower compared to other less efficient codecs, like mpeg. An mpeg will typically need 2X the bitrate (or more) of a similar divx in order to look the same.

  3. Thanks a lot. Glad to clear that up. So the bitrates between different video formats have nothing in common.
