  1. I have made it a habit to always backup my movies to DVD-R, and that way I can also have a copy at my other home. However, I am having some troubles with an audio stream which I have deleted but the reference is still in the main IFO...

I've been googling for days, looking for tools/help on the subject. None of the tools seemed to do what I needed. IFOEdit came the closest but is too badly laid out, I went through everything and still kept finding new stuff. I then resorted to hours on different IRC channels asking people who were familiar with dvd authoring. Still nothing.

The problem is that my menu (VIDEO_TS.ifo) has a reference to an audiostream which I have already deleted. I want to remove this reference so that it stops showing up in the DVD player. I can't see any ways in IFOEdit and have also tried a few other tools. The stream reference is selected in this picture: http://www.pulsar3.com/audioref.jpg

I do my copying with InstantCopy, which deleted this stream while transcoding and properly removed the reference from VTS_01.ifo, but it left it in the menu (VIDEO_TS.ifo). Therefore it pops up in my player...

I hope that I've been clear enough. If not, ask away

I didn't say that I tried to edit the file on the DVD 8) The files are on disk now. Waiting to fix this somehow and then burn again.

Thanks for mentioning MenuEdit. It looks good, but not like it can remove audio streams/references. It's for removing buttons and stuff in the menu as far as I've read.

By the way, if I remove the menu, I would still need to have a VIDEO_TS.ifo file, albeit now without menu vob. So it shouldn't help remove the stream reference from VIDEO_TS.ifo.

Thanks a lot for your input! I will check MenuEdit as soon as I can.

You might look at DvdReMake in dvd to dvd section of tools. Apparently can modify menus, e.g. delete buttons

Thanks. I've checked it already, it had nothing for advanced editing. Just video-based things.

  8. Have you tried to create new info files with info edit? Got to VTS folder, open and cut and past your info files in another folder for save keeping, then open info edit and see it it will create new info files.

I'm not sure I even understand the problem here.

Your back-up is a MOVIE ONLY back-up or you did a FULL BACK-UP with the MENU but deleted the DTS track?

It sounds like you did a FULL BACK-UP with the MENU but deleted the DTS track.

Of course that selection will still be there on the MENU

    But who cares?

I've never seen a DVD that has both Dolby Digital and DTS that defaulted to the DTS track.

So just don't select the DTS option on the menu.

Why is NOT having it on the MENU such a big deal?

    I don't get it!

    Open your Video_ts.ifo in IFOEDIT
    Go to VMG_VTS_ATRT
Find: Number of audio streams in Title(VTSTT_VOBS)
    Enter new value (1)
    Save

    Good luck!

what you need to do is copy the data from the 1st stream into the 2nd stream and then no matter what is selected you will always hear the stream you kept or you can remove all references to the 2nd stream if you want but it may still play silent if the 2nd stream is selected

places to look if you want to remove it are :

in the VIDEO_TS.IFO as konvas mentions
VMG_VTS_ATRT/ Number of Audio Streams in Title (VTSTT_VOBS) and change value to 1

and in the main movie IFO
VTSI_MAT/Number of Audio Streams in VTSTT_VOBS and change value to 1

if you want to keep the 2nd stream so it plays audio even if selected :

    in the VIDEO_TS.IFO
copy VMG_VTS_ATRT/VTS Title Audio_1 attributes to VTS Title Audio_2 attributes just below for the VTS concerned

    in the main movie IFO
copy VTSI_MAT/Aud_1: audio attributes to Aud_2: audio attributes

    in the main movie IFO
copy VTS_PGCITI/VTS_PGC_X/Audio stream 1 status to Audio stream 2 status

once you know how to do it it takes seconds
