I have a SVCD of a family event and I want to make a copy on VHS tape for my aunt. She does not have a DVD player. Can this be done if I connect my DVD standalone to my VHS tape recorder? My VHS only has a video and mono sound inputs, would I use a Y connector and put DVD stereo out into mono? Thanks Foz

Sounds like you know what you're doing for this project. This would probably be the easiest way to go. And yes, you should use a Y adapter to convert stereo to mono (for the best sound), and so the left and right channels don't get confused. Here's a pic that may help you out (but you probably already know what you're doing). Sorry if my Paint skills are lacking
Also, the Y adapter should be 2 males (stereo and mono) to a female (mono). Then the rest of the cords will be male to male. -
Quite a few VHS recorders convert to mono ifyou hook up only one audio input. You should check your owner's manual before you go to the y adapter. I have added noise this way that I did not want.
Still a few bugs in the system... -
Thanks to both of you, and to you Video Guy, your diagram was excellent. I don't remember ever getting such good advice on any post I have made. Thanks Foz

Don't use a Y-connector to join the stereo outputs!
If you use a Y-connector on a stereo output you will be shorting the left and right channels and you may damage the DVD player. Use only one of the outputs and then use the menu in the DVD player to set the audio to mono.

Zippy P, I have already hooked with a Y connector and recorded the SVCD. All seemed to work OK, but when I move my DVD player back to the stereo I had it previously connected I will find out if I damaged the DVD stereo output. Will reply when I find out. Thanks Foz

I also played my SVCD to VHS tape recording and it was great, just as much quality as the SVCD, except for the mono audio. So thanks again to ( Video Guy ) for your drawing and advice. Foz
